Review: Marvel Zombies Resurrection #3

Marvel Zombies Resurrection is a great ride with epic apocalyptic action and solid bloody fun. The story stays very focused on a small band of heroes facing a very large threat. The art by Leonard Kirk shows a ravaged and war torn world full of undead heroes.

After an ominous scene with Franklin Richards under attack by his own parents the action takes us to the edge of Atlantis where Spidey, Franklin, Blade, a kindly Sentinel named Nana and a Flerken team together to find the Galactus Hive and reverse the Zombie curse. The comic uses many classic tropes as the warriors beat back the zombies of Atlantis before finding a tortured Wolverine.

This reunion is interrupted by a zombie Magik who reveals that the Zombies have come from another universe using Limbo as the path of invasion. The Zombies emerge en masse and reveal themselves as the offspring of the Brood planting their seeds within a zombie Galactus like a cosmic cancer. The Zombies of the Marvel Universe stand ready to battle even as Peter faces his worst nightmare, a zombie Mary Jane.

This book has fantastic art, incredible dialogue, a great use of heroes that we know and love. The book does have some limitations in terms of using tropes and characters that we have seen before in other works. But it is a nostalgic ride through a zombie world. It is strange to see Franklin Richards deaged from his own book.

The art is fantastic, the zombies are all well done, the colors greatly complement the overall look of this book. It is a book with a narrow scope until we hit Limbo, but we do get the feeling this is a team on the edge of the apocalypse looking into the end of the world. It will be interesting to see how this arc finishes with such a large horde of zombies facing our villains.

If anything the book could use a bit more blood shed, it does feel a bit tame at times. Keeping the action so kid friendly, makes it feel more like a video game crossover and a bit less like a zombie horror film. But overall it“s a fun ride, with great art and solid surprises as Marvel Zombies should be.
