Review: Star Wars #15

Star Wars 15 is meant to be part of the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover. Unfortunately in actuality it’s a rather disconnected piece of the puzzle as we take a break from the massive cliffhanger of Lando and Leia running into Boba Fett to focus on Luke’s adventure with Starlight Squadron.

The adventure is a fun one though and the artwork is just spectacular as Ramon Rosanas showcases X-Wing action at its best. Charles Soule shows his skill as a writer in taking what seems to be a standard dogfight story and giving it enough twists to make it feel new and exciting.

Luke joins the Squadron in part to replace Sheara Bey who is still missing in action. They race to Ab Dalis to answer a Rebel call for help. The Empire has a massive presence including Admiral Kalaxo and a massive Star Destroyer. Starlight Squadron have a test of faith as the Rebels on the ground give them an impossible target to hit for seemingly no reason.

Once they trust their comrades and hit the target they discover it’s a Volcano sitting just below the Star Destroyer. The volcano and battle are gloriously rendered and the action makes this tagent from the larger story worthwhile. Add to it that the Rebels they saved include Mon Mothma and Ackbar.

As Luke takes the kill shot he has a vision of Vader going after the Millenium Falcon at Yavin. He realizes Vader is going after Han and that he needs to quickly join with Leia to save Han from imperial clutches.
