In the last issues of Transformer #2 The last Bot Standing Donnokt, the Last Bot meets with the Visitors, the last straggling survivors of a dying race and quite possibly the biggest threat yet to the locals.
In the current issue, Transformer #2, first the reader gets caught up Shib and how his life story intersects with the visitors and the remnants of the Bots. But upfront and center in the storyline is an ailing Rodimus as he is being forced to convert by Wheelie to a machine that utilizes biofuels from humans. At the bottom of it all we finally get an answer to the point of Shib’s character.
Art:
Action packed, but not particularly dystopian. I have nothing against the lines or colors which are great, but I was expecting the concept are for a dystopia to be darker. But I get it the characters here are designed to sell toys not to necessarily expand on a narrative, and not to and I’m here for it.
Script:
If you’re looking for a last stand Black noir in the vein of the Last Ronin, you might want to look elsewhere. I would love to see what Michael Bay could do with this.
Dialogue:
It’s a bit choppy and redundant. For instance, apparently the Bots in the future use humans as fuel. That should be a show stopping fact that pushed the plot forward. Instead, it’s just a discussion point on par with gun rights.
Speculation:
A platform like HBOMAX or PARAMOUNT would be lacking if they didn’t look at adapting something like this, but at Transformers series have not been a hot item to collect. Hot Rod: The Transformers: The Movie #1 (December 1986).
In the last bot standing series there hasn’t been much to speculate on. I do think that there could some interesting Though It’s always nice to see new transformers series. In the meantime, it is nice to see the Transformers #1 (1986) finally getting some attention rising from $200 to $350 placing it squarely in soon to be Blue Chip Book territory. For Hot Rod: Transformers #39.
