Review: We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #2

We Only Find Them When They“re Dead #2 is published by BOOM! Studios. It comes from the creative team of writer Al Ewing, artist Simone Di Meo, coloring assists from Mariasara Miotti, and lettering by AndWorld Design. This is the 2nd issue of a new mini-series.

In the previous issue, We Only Find Them When They“re Dead #1, An Autopsy ship captain of the Vihaan II were on a scavenge expedition to recover part from the cadaver of a god. When as the rest of his crew begins making preparations they observe other ships and crews fighting over the other parts of the colossal corpse. They were regarded with suspicions from the regulation authorities, but after being cleared, the crew of the Vihaan starts to plan sets off on a new expedition”¦to find a god that lives.

In the current issue, We Only Find Them When They“re Dead #2, Captain George and the crew of Vihaan II, set their plan in to motion.  The driving narrative for this issue exploring the feelings of the crew that they most likely will not come back from this.  Some are not fully onboard but are still committed to driving on with the plan.  Of course, every plan has its complications, as the crew are being chased down by a mysterious character named Richter.  It was subtly hinted at that the Captain and Richter have a past.

A chase issue issue that was meant to be more of a setup. Not really a standalone issue.  I miss the piracy, and exploitation from the 1st issue.  In its place its more about broken Romantic and familial relationships.

Art for this issue was done by Simone Di Meo. This was more of a setup issue, so those expecting the engaging art from the 1st issue, will just have to wait for another issue.

SCORE: 3 out of 5 stars.
