REVIEW: X-MEN LEGENDS #8

Story Thus far:

In the last  issue X-MEN LEGENDS #7,  Wolverine, Jubilee and Yukio are investigating the kidnapping of two Orphan’s sisters Yurei and Hiono-Chan.  They suspect that the two are mutants.  Their investigation takes them to the Japanese underworld in Osaka where they team up with Yukio.  They caught up with the team that is attempting to traffic the two sisters; but the plan does not go as they had planned.

In the current issue, X-MEN LEGENDS #8 Wolverine, and Yurei catch up to the gang on the pier where Hino-san is being held and must fight off the gang and Lady Strike.  A surprise appearance by Omega Red, and other characters

Art:

It has a flurry of action scenes that capture Wolverine being Patch, and the true carnage that Jubilee can release.   Great Lines by Artist Billy Tan but the context is lost against the background from issues #7  whose interior artistic style was definitely influenced by Manga, and an ever-better job by Color artist Chris Sotomayor, whose palette just popped

Script:

Heavily departing from the Manga influenced, issue #7.  I am going to miss the cultural references. I love the context of Wolverine unleashing his violent tendencies for a good cause, in this case Human trafficking.  Divorced from its Krakoa influenced storyline.

Speculation:

Any speculation derived from this issue lies in the very disciplined definition of 1st appearance.  In X-Men Legends #7, Yurei, Jie Jie, and Hino-San had the 1st appearances even though  Hino-San’ technically counted as a cameo.  And which is even more interesting is that she doesn’t even show up at all in this Therefore, further delaying Hino-San’s 1st appearance.

Jubilee (Jubilation Lee) : Uncanny X-Men #244

Yukio  : Wolverine #1 (1982)

Lady Deathstrike (Yuriko Oyama): Daredevil #197

Reiko Sato: X-Men Legends Vol 1 #7

Omega Red X-Men (Vol. 2) #4 (1992)

Birdy: X-Men (Vol. 2) #6

Sabretooth: Iron Fist #14 91977)

Cover Art:

X-MEN LEGENDS #8, has three  covers CVR A is by Billy Tan; CVR B Scott Williams; CVR C  John Tyler Christopher 1:25. At this time CVR C was sold out at most 2nd party sellers, and going for double ration on third party platforms

SCORE: 2.5 out of 5.

The issue isn’t a terrible read.  It just falls under the expectaations set from issue #7. People are going to be pissed because its obvious that the business plan was to  to offer an incentive to trick speculators into thinking something big was happening in this book.
