X OF Swords, love it or hate has established so many rules that it quite possibly be the most important continuity rule setting series of our life time. But most interesting is that Hickman chose Saturnyne to be the custodian of the rules and the portals between dimensions and worlds. Saturnyne (The Mighty World of Marvel: Marvel Superheroes #381, Jan 1982).
Much like the constant side story lettering that is know in the X-Men books he could of just said this is the way it is now take or leave it. Instead he chose to take a more elegant route, through the story. So, that the reader could feel that this end was the perhaps the most merciful one…
But I don’t love generosity, or Mercy, and I was digging the take no-prisoners side of the X-Men. So now I have nothing but questions…
Why is this called X of Swords if More than half the competitions didn’t need to be completed with Swords?
So is Captain Britain (Beth Braddock) Dead, Dead or?
What Happened to the Summoner(s) and the demons they control?
What Happened to the suspiciously similar looking Necro sword? The Colony Sword Claimed by the void. Unformed. Unsummoned. Location: Unknown [Otherworld]
Why are there two Muramasa swords?
What is the deal with the Annihilations mask /sword?
Remember how the citadel was supposed to be a cross section between realms, and numbers and colors were supposed to be important? Yeah not so much?
Art by Pepe Larraz as always is on point. Lots of exciting pages to catch the eye. Is it me or was this the first appearance of the other High Summoners?
2 stars out of 5. There was a lot of exciting build-up for it to just end this way. What is left, is a bunch of open ended questions, that probably won’t get answered. It feels like Hickman, had a bunch of great ideas but simply ran out out page space.
