On the weekend of Nov. 2 – 4, at the Dunking Donuts Convention Center in Providence, RI, was the annual Rhode Island Comic Con. They have a byline where they say they are the biggest con in the smallest state this year they were NOT kidding! The show took over all of the convention center, the arena and took over more space at the adjacent Omni Hotel.
We were onsite from Friday until Sunday and the event was a hit! Fans were lined up early on Friday morning waiting to get into this event at 2PM. Once the doors were set to open we had the Mayor of Providence show up as well as the show runners and the stars of the hit film, It. Once the ribbon got cut, in celebration of the event opening, the fans came rushing in as they had a GREAT line-up of celebrities and creators and since they had more space, they split up the celebs from creators and it made a huge difference in foot traffic (in a positive way) on various floors.
The fans, the cosplay, the vendors, guests, etc… made this experience a bunch of fun. People were there to have a good time and enjoy their respective fandoms. They had loud and clear announcements for panels, signs and very helpful staff everywhere to let you know where to go. They had a fantastic amount of vendors with toys, games, and of course comic books. I saw many $1 boxes and bundled sets/runs and quite a few gems at fair prices. I will say though Funko Pops was what was poppin’! They were EVERYWHERE! The show even had their own It! Exclusive pop figure.
Each day of the con had its fair share of attendees, especially Saturday. We hung out with Critix team and a friend Jaye Frye and they had run ins at the show with Bam Margera, Tom Welling and more… The celebrity floor was on the 5th floor and was jam-packed, But the opportunity to speak to your favorite celebrity was there. The artist in artist alley loved the setup as well as fans who were there were there to buy art, get commissions and so forth. I was happy to hear many creators did very well!
Bottom line is that Alerted Reality has once again hosted a fun and great family friendly show that I recommend you definitely experience!

ALSO…. We even had a booth at this years show, Booth 456 on aisle 400. We were the ONLY table giving away free stuff such as comics, posters, bookmarks and a FREE raffle with great toys and more comics. It is amusing to see how people react to the word free, MANY were hesitant some were happy to come over. Once they realized we had no agenda we gave away EVERYTHING! Want to thank Diamond Collectibles, Lion Forge, Valiant, IDW, Viz Media, Impact Theory Comics and Cinebook for the awesome swag donated for the fans.
Want to say HUGE Thank You to Altered Reality Ent., Ian Nichols, Arelis Perez, Bud Young, Lisa Turenne, Jaye Frye, Klep from Critix and the staff at RICC.
