Whereas the aforementioned properties were subtle with their nudity, Big Blue, by Mase Corgan, is not subtle at all. In fact its’ protagonist Yaelin, is a blue alien sex symbol in every sense of the word, but she’s asexual. Yaelin come from the sisterhood planet, Gonzaga led by Matriarchs, where they have several abilities: She can fly; her areolas are bulletproof; her breast can stretch to be as long as she wants, and into any shape that she wants.
The Sisterhood seems to have an enemy in the form of a group of aliens from other worlds that want to conquer other planets as well as Earth. Their leader operates under the code name “Nucleus”. So far they have sent operatives with weaponized Gonzangan DNA in order to acquire the same morphogenic breast powers as Yaelin. Â
There are some stark opposite differences in between the way Portal Comics draws Yaelin and the way Gibbons portrayed Dr. Manhattan:Â it looks weird, but if Dr. Manhattan“s just walking around stark naked and nobody“s taking any notice of it, then somehow it does look really innocent. That is quite the opposite from Big Blue Yaelin here, where everybody notices. Also, just like in classical sculptures and art it was normal for the subjects to have understated genitals, Portal Comic decided to go the opposite way and made sure that everybody noticed and that it consumes the dialogue surrounding her deeds.
Final Verdict: Big Blue is smooth read and enjoyable, while sneakily making social commentary social protocol, and body image.  The audacious character design, lowers my expectations that this will ever be a commercial, due to how prude we as a society still are, and that is a statement unto itself. For all of interesting work on the interiors. Its weird that more care wasn’t given to the cover, as that’s what would catch the eyes of most speculators. Big Blue is a limited series so it makes a forgivable mistake of revering its subject without getting under her skin and illuminating her human side. Instead it prioritizes breasts jokes, and though they may be perfectly timed, the jokes drain much of the tension from key action sequences.
