So you would think that would be enough messing around with his back story to make him interesting. Gerry Duggan, thinks not, with a decision to add some ROM to the mix. This isn’t the first time that ROM has mixed it up with the X-men Of course, with ROM: Spaceknight being a Marvel title. The space cyborg“s exploits occasionally has gotten him entangled with other Marvel characters, and even led to an encounter with to include Galactus (back on Galador).
The implied narrative laid out in Cable #1, is that at some point in the future Nathan Summers, will fight the remnants of the Galador race. Apparently a character called Morn was the first owner of the sword called the Light of Galador, which is eerily similar to Magik’s Illyana Rasputina SoulSword. What has been clear from the start of the Dawn of X is that at some point there will be a whole mutant vs. AI/Robot war and this is an interesting step in that direction. That’s it. That’s all you need to know. It kinda feels like this was aimed more at readers like me who were wondering where Nathan would fit in when it comes to this whole revamp of the X-men.
All I have to say is slick move for the franchise for fans that have been wanting more Cable, and the other fans who have been wondering what’s been going on with the promised ROM movie. The last word we have heard is that the Ready Player One writer Zak Penn will adapt ROM: Spaceknight for Paramount.
