This! This is what I’ve been asking for since day one!

I’ve always said that I would love a book completely dedicated to interaction between the Bat-family. Nothing is more interesting to me than the various interactions between Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, Red Robin, and Robin. This issue capitalizes on that, with Dick Grayson revealing to the rest of the Bat-Fam that he’s still kicking. Responses range from anger (Jason, Babs) to disappointment (Tim) to an adorable hug (and I don’t even like Damian Wayne).

The writing this issue is superb. Between the use of Dick’s secret code, and the referencing of numerous quotes from their interactions together, King & Seeley really build up this issue’s sense of history and family in a great way.

Complementing the great writing is Mikel Janin’s fabulous art, which has gotten praise since the series first started. I’ll admit there are certain moments where the art falls a bit flat for me, but whether that’s the result of the pencils, inks, or colors, I really couldn’t say. All in all, it hardly detracts from such a great issue.

I don’t read Grayson monthly. I tried it out when it first started, back after Forever Evil, and liked it, but didn’t love it. I’m a huge Dick Grayson fan, but this series just wasn’t for me. And though I probably won’t end up adding it to my pull list (which is already too big for sure), I definitely am glad I jumped in on this issue and got to enjoy what may very well be the first complete Bat-Fam interaction of the New 52.
