REVIEW: Pandemica #2

In the last issue of Pandemica #1, a communicable disease pandemic had left 12,000 dead as the result of Chikungunya, that seems to be disproportionately killing people of color. Also disease that were not communicable seemed to be on the uptick. A CDC scientist by the name of Dr. Moses Katz, resolved to build a team full of specialist, investigators, nurses, clinicians, scientist, and Lawyer called Pandemica that operate outside the purview of the federal government. Little did they know but an elitist organization called the “Ark” had hired an assassin to kill him, and stop their operation.

In the Current issue of Pandemica #2, the levels of Communicable diseases has risen, as well as the numbers of death related to genetic diseases.  The Pandemica organization continues their crusade to investigate and hunt down those behind the Global proliferation of the Bio-Weapons, but they continue to get stonewalled around every corner, every time they get a clue, or a person of interest, the powers against are one step ahead of them.

In the meantime the Ark decides to take their plan to the next level. The Bio-Weapons themselves seem to have their own arc and is slowly spinning out of control. Originally, the Bio-weapon was Mosquito-Borne virus that was targeting specific demographic markers but now has also been distributed to area with mixed race population. Scary stuff sure, but now writer Jonathan Maberry has transitioned the threat to something else as it appears that the illness is changing the humans into monsters.

What interesting is that so far the diseases seem to have more character development than the people, and I can see why. Part of the reason is that most of the characters seem unable to resolve the problems is because they do not yet fully understand yet that they do not have the skills to deal with the biological forces working against them. This cannot be achieved alone and I can  how Maberry is them up to be aided co-protagonists.  Which brings up the last panels from the last two issues.  In which we see Deena holding a baby (I think), and carrying him around town.  So far there hasn’t been any explanation but it does seem intriguing, makes this title one to keep an eye on.

SCORE: 3 stars out of 5.
