Review: Sea of Stars #1

Please consider for the moment that fact that writer Jason Aaron’s  War of the Realms crossover event at Marvel has been building since he first began writing Thor: God of Thunder in 2012.  That is 9 years and within that time his writing has influence the characterization of established character in movies, forged new ones, and so much more than we have yet to have seen.  That is why it is absolute imperative to see the Jason Aaron is up to with his new title “Sea of Stars #1”.

Jason Aaron doesn’t try and wean the reader into the situation.  He goes all in from the get go, in establishing a father’s greatest fear as a theme. That sense of not being able to protect your child.  We have a sense that our children aren“t safe in this world. There are these dangers, all these threats ⏤ whether it“s stranger danger or chemicals out there ⏤ and if you don“t watch your kid every second, this shape-shifting but ever-present threat is going to hurt your child.

What’s interesting is the many elements that it could be compared to…a little bit of Gravity and  cross pollinate it with Finding Nemo marinate that with the Jungle Book and the  Never ending story and then sprinkle in a little bit of the innocence of Dustin Nguyen“s Descender, and you basically have Sea of Stars #1.  The general impression that I am getting is that this would definitely  fit nicely on the big screen save for a few characters that would make it expensive.

Artist Stephen Green, put a lot of love into Sea of Stars #1, hitting it out of the park with some incredible detailed panels.  I’ll be shocked if he can keep up the pace through the rest of Volume #1.  Sea of Stars #1 comes with 2 covers;  CVR A GREEN, and the CVR B  by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.  There are some retail variants according to Jason Aaron.
