Welcome to the future, 200 years from Sonic and the Freedom Fighters“ present! Silver the Hedgehog was just trying to live his life in the harsh metropolis of Onyx City… But when he meets quirky Professor Von Schlemmer he learns of an otherworldly danger which only he can stop”¦ the Genesis Portals!
The Genesis Portals are rips in the very fabric of space-time, they threaten to tear reality apart if left unchecked. Only Silver has the ability to close these portals, and set the universe right! But is Silver up to the challenge?
Yet again, I find myself writing a review for a comic falling under the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, yet you won“t find Sonic himself anywhere in this book. I must admit, after watching Sega all but force feed me these characters, I found it refreshing to see Silver the Hedgehog in his element…away from Sonic and Shadow. This series is all about Silver!
I have to say, I thoroughly appreciate when a comic takes the time to catch you up on an existing story. Sonic Universe does a good job with telling me what the current situation is about, and hinting of how it“s tied to past story plot (and by hinting, I mean they reference the comic title and issue number, so you know exactly what to purchase!)
The art is still classic Sonic style, exactly what you“d expect from the franchise. The colors are still just as vibrant, the paneling is interesting, and the tones are consistent. Evan Stanley has me pretty excited to see where the story is going to go, assuming this will be a continuing series.
My only down fall: the professor“s accent is irritating to read. However, it“s technically a kid“s comic, so I can“t complain.
All in all: If you“re looking for a story plot to start from the top, this could be a good new series to read.
