Darth Vader #15 navigates this by flashing back to just before Vader enters the fray. Vader and Ochi arrive on the outer rim world of Arkanis to dig up information in Crimson Dawn, the organization from the Solo film now lead by Qi’ra. This leads them to Bokku the Hutt who they realize is a triple agent working with Crimson Dawn.
Vader tosses Ochi out of their departing shuttle and demands he find out more about Crimson Dawn. Ochi runs into a group of their warriors. Vader tests Ochi by abandoning him to this fight and Ochi emerges victorious.
The art in this issue is massively improved from prior installments. The characters shine, the battle scene is powerful, the colors look fantastic. This is a classic Star Wars book but with a polished finish.
That said the book still suffers from two core issues. The first remains that Ochi is still not quirky enough to hold our interest. He does not feel like a true threat to Vader’s power and does not serve the role of sidekick well. Secondly as mention is the larger crossover entirely side-tracking all the supporting books and making them feel redundant rather than adding anything new.
