Batman Day 2026 Goes Double Dark With Batman of Two Worlds

WEPA! Batman Day is coming in hot on September 19, and DC is not showing up with a little commemorative pamphlet and a polite handshake. Nah. They are putting two very different versions of Gotham’s favorite nocturnal problem-solver in one comic and letting readers see exactly how differently they attack the same kind of trouble.

Batman of Two Worlds lands worldwide on Batman Day 2026 as a $2.99 one-shot built around an all-new Batman story from writer Matt Fraction and artist Javi Fernández, plus an all-new Absolute Batman story from writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Derington. The regular Batman story features colors by Tomeu Morey and letters by Clayton Cowles, while the Absolute side features colors by Frank Martin and letters by Tom Napolitano. The cover brings together artwork from Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin.

The hook is clean and nasty in the best Batman way. Both stories circle the idea of theft, but the point is not simply watching two Batmen punch somebody who grabbed the wrong bag. DC is using the side-by-side format to show how each version defines justice, what each one prioritizes, and how the worlds around them shape the way they operate. Snyder described the guiding idea as seeing what theft means in one universe versus the other, while Fraction framed the concept as one problem getting two very different solutions.

That setup is why this one-shot feels like more than a Batman Day giveaway. Regular Batman and Absolute Batman share the same DNA, but their methods, environments and emotional textures are not interchangeable. Putting them together in one publication gives readers an easy entry point into both versions without forcing a giant continuity homework assignment. That is a smart Batman Day move because longtime readers get the contrast, while somebody walking into a comic shop for the first time can understand the premise immediately.

DC is also rolling out four collectible paper masks at participating comic shops, featuring Batman, Absolute Batman, Hush Batman and The Dark Knight Returns Batman. Ryan Sook created the masks in visual styles inspired by Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, Jim Lee and Frank Miller. Retailer activities will vary, but DC says fans can expect promotions, costumes, giveaways and other local celebrations depending on the shop.

The publishing side gets another boost with five hardcover releases scheduled around the event: Batman Vol. 1: Daylight by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez, Batman ’89 by Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones, Batman: H2SH Volume One by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition by Frank Miller, and Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham – The Deluxe Edition by Rafael Grampá. The lineup hits multiple generations of Bat-fandom, from Burton-era nostalgia to current Gotham and Absolute-era readers.

DC Universe Infinite is also joining the celebration with a curated selection of free-to-read Batman comics, including Absolute Batman #1-3 and the complete Batman: Wayne Family Adventures series in the DC GO! vertical-scrolling format. DCUI members can also connect their account with WB Games for in-game Batcave props in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, with additional rewards for premium subscribers.

Beyond the comics themselves, retailers and partners across North America, Latin America, Europe and Japan are planning signings, cosplay contests, charity events, giveaways and Batman-themed activities. DC is clearly treating September 19 as a global comics-store rally, not just another date on the merch calendar.
