Ice Cream Man: Mortal Coil Shuffle Returns With a Silver Age Card-Deck Edition

Leave it to Ice Cream Man to turn a second printing into another weird little publishing experiment. Image Comics is bringing back The Mortal Coil Shuffle, the series’ comic-book story told entirely through a custom deck of playing cards, with a new Silver Age-inspired design.

The original edition sold out after its 2025 release, despite being promoted at the time as a one-and-done experiment. Demand changed the plan, and the new edition gives readers another shot at the 55-card story while changing the visual presentation enough to make this release feel like its own collectible object.

Written by W. Maxwell Prince with art by Martín Morazzo, Chris O’Halloran and Good Old Neon, The Mortal Coil Shuffle uses cards as both pages and storytelling mechanics. Some cards advance the story directly, others cast strange narrative “spells,” and certain cards work together to form larger images.

The result is part comic, part card deck and part formal experiment. Tarot cards, credit cards and flash cards all become part of the visual language, letting the creative team play with sequence, order and the physical act of reading in ways a normal stapled comic cannot.

Image Comics’ current solicitation lists Ice Cream Man: The Mortal Coil Shuffle Card (New Edition) for November 25, 2026, priced at $9.99. The new version keeps the 55-card format while replacing the first printing’s fantasy-forward look with a Silver Age-inspired design.

For readers who missed the first run, this is the obvious second chance. For collectors who already own it, Image has managed to make the reprint different enough to tempt the completist brain all over again. Sneaky. Effective. Extremely Ice Cream Man.
