Comic Creator Tom Tenney Needs the Kind of Heroes He Spent Decades Helping Inspire

The comics community has always celebrated heroes, but right now this is bigger than fandom, bigger than publishers, and bigger than nostalgia. This is about helping a real creator survive.

Tom Tenney spent more than 30 years bringing imagination to life through comics, animation, and music-connected projects, with work tied to major names including Marvel, DC, Image, and AC/DC. Now, according to his GoFundMe, Tenney is battling advanced COPD, a debilitating illness that has taken away his ability to work and turned everyday survival into a brutal uphill fight.

The situation is heartbreaking. The fundraiser says Tenney and his family lost their home in Florida, moved north hoping for a fresh start, and have since endured sleeping on couches, sleeping in a car, and losing nearly everything they owned. It also states that his life partner is diabetic, helps care for her autistic daughter, and that the family is struggling to afford food, medicine, oxygen support, and basic survival needs.

Over the last month, Tenney says he has had multiple hospital stays and can no longer walk even short distances without needing oxygen and medication. That is not a rough patch. That is a full-blown emergency. This is one of those moments where the comic book world, the art world, the music world, and anybody with a heart needs to stop scrolling and show up.

As of April 8, 2026, the fundraiser was at $3,420 raised toward a $5,000 goal from 54 donations, so this is a real chance for the community to make immediate impact. Even a small donation can help cover life-sustaining medication, oxygen, food, and basic essentials. And if donating is not possible, sharing the fundraiser could help put it in front of someone who can help.
