Something to stir up Marvel fans again after a disappointing show by the unpleasant Avengers: Infinity War. We can only expect that the enlisting of Black Panther’s Shuri among the iconic superheroes with a standalone comic series will usher in the much-needed rejuvenation.
It was gathered that the spinoff series will be written by Nnedi Okorafor, an afro-futurist writer with a Nigerian and American background. An artist, Leonardo Romero, was also nominated by Eisner to illustrate the book. He has also authored of some the best essay writing services reviews.
According to the announcement made by Nnedi on 19th July, the highly anticipated comic is expected to be released later this year in October. And will feature Black Panther’s Shuri as the lead character while T’Challa is nowhere to be found.
It should be remembered that Shuri featured in the Black Panther comics as T’Challa’s tech genius little sister.
However, in the new series, she will no longer be remembered for her geeky secluded life with her gadgets and lab. Instead, she will take up a stronger role which will see her become responsible for the fate of Wakanda following the disappearance Black Panther who is presumably lost on a space odyssey. In other words, Shuri is now compelled to fill the power vacuum created by the vanishment of T’Challa.
According to the synopsis of the official Marvel Comics, Shuri still wallows in the world she built around her gadget creations. She would rather prefer to test gauntlets in her lab than throw them around. But then, with no one to lead the nation, Wakanda is defenceless and consequently vulnerable to external attacks. It’s now left to the tech genius to choose between her comfort and warfare of her nation.
Besides her professorship at the University of Buffalo, New York, Nnedi is well known in the sci-fi genre as one of the most exciting authors. Her stories are mostly built around deaf female characters dated in the new African setting with a lot of emphasis on symbolism.
Up till date, she has bagged several awards for the Best Novella. This includes the Africana Book Award, the Hugo and Nebula Award and the 2011 World Fantasy Award which is arguably her most revered works to date. She received the latter for a novel, “Who Fears Death?” which is currently set to be featured in an HBO drama series produced by George R. Martin.

Her previous contributions include a story on Black Panther: Long Live the King; Blessing in Disguise; Wakanda Forever” which was featured in a 3 part series involving Amazing Spiderman, X-men and Avengers.
The science fiction author made it clear to Bustle magazine that her love for Shuri is based on her origin as a young African genius who loves technology. She also admires the fact that the tech geek has been aware of Wakanda before it even came into existence. She went ahead to acknowledge Shuri as her most appealing character in the entire Marvel Universe.
The announcement obviously stirred the hearts of many comic fans as they expressed their delight.
