Big WEPA Music Studios Presents CREATORS CARNIVAL: Comic Crusaders Invades NYCC in Boom-Bap Style

WEPAAAA! Big WEPA Music Studios is opening the damn gates to CREATORS CARNIVAL, and this one is personal. We took the beautiful madness of New York Comic Con, twenty years of Comic Crusaders, my love for hip-hop, creator culture, Puerto Rican flavor, New York attitude and all the ridiculous shit that happens when you throw thousands of geeks into Javits for a few days, then turned that energy into a full concept album starring Stemz, Tunez & Limbz. This shit is loud, grimy, funny, disrespectful when it needs to be, and still has enough heart underneath all the jokes to remind you why we’ve been doing this for two damn decades.
Creators Carnival ain’t some background soundtrack I slapped together because NYCC is coming. Hell no. I wanted this thing to feel like you actually walked through those doors with us. You hear the excitement when the day starts, the shit talking before anybody has even done anything, the interviews piling up, somebody getting distracted every twenty feet, exclusives calling our names like drugs, bags getting heavier, phones dying, feet screaming for mercy and schedules slowly turning into suggestions. If you’ve ever done a real Comic Con weekend, you already know the deal. You go in with a plan and somewhere around hour three that plan gets punched directly in the mouth.
Musically, I wanted Big WEPA planted deep in that New York dirt. I’m talking dusty boom bap drums, nasty chopped soul and jazz textures, warped carnival sounds, comic-book villain energy, thick bass, vinyl grit, live-feeling percussion and Puerto Rican rhythm running through the bloodstream. I don’t want this shit sounding sterile or like somebody typed “make hip-hop” into a machine and called it a day. Stemz brings that grounded veteran pocket, Tunez gets busy with the multis and tongue-twisting shit, and Limbz is basically one bad sentence away from getting all three of them escorted out of Javits.
“That’s Facts” gets the album moving by putting twenty years of receipts on the table. Comic Crusaders wasn’t built yesterday, and nobody handed me this shit. There were mistakes, pivots, long nights, people who came and went, doors that opened, doors that got slammed shut and plenty of moments where quitting would’ve been easier. We’re still fucking here, and that’s not ego talking. That’s history.
Then “Press Pass Problems” flips the perspective completely. Everybody sees that MEDIA badge hanging around your neck and thinks you’re cruising around Comic Con feeling important. Meanwhile, your inbox is having a nervous breakdown, an interview moved three floors away, somebody wants coverage in ten minutes, another PR rep just sent a “small schedule adjustment,” your battery is dying and you haven’t eaten since breakfast. That’s the shit nobody sees. Access ain’t the flex. What you actually DO once somebody gives you that access is where the work begins.
That naturally crashes straight into “Side Quest,” because once the schedule is already hanging by a thread, Comic Con starts throwing distractions at you like an RPG designed by somebody who hates calendars. Creators you didn’t expect to see, exclusives you definitely don’t need, mystery boxes, random conversations and Limbz disappearing every thirty seconds turn the whole day into one giant detour. That track is basically the moment everybody accepts that the itinerary is now fiction.
“Nobody Interviews Like Mega” gets into something I take seriously: the interview. I fucking hate robotic questions. If somebody gives me their time, I’m doing the homework. I want to know what they created, why they created it, what almost broke the project, what kept them going and what makes their story different. I don’t want creators giving me the same answer they’ve already given twelve other outlets that afternoon. Give me a conversation. Give me personality. Give me something REAL.
Then “Badge Behavior” immediately ruins all that professionalism by documenting what happens when grown-ass men get loose inside a building full of comics, toys, exclusives and food priced like somebody personally flew the chicken into Manhattan first class. By the time we reach “Roast Mode,” fuck it, everybody can get some. Podcast culture, media flexing, fake mogul energy, convention nonsense and our own bullshit all get thrown on the grill. If we’re going to talk shit, we damn sure better be able to laugh at ourselves too.
Then “Fan First” changes the whole temperature because underneath every joke on this album is something very real. Before Comic Crusaders, before the credentials, before the podcast, before anybody gave a shit who I was, I was a fan. I’m STILL a fan. Writers, artists, colorists, letterers, filmmakers, musicians and indie creators are why any of this exists. Sometimes a comic is entertainment, and sometimes somebody finds the right story on the worst fucking day of their life and suddenly doesn’t feel quite as alone. That’s bigger than clicks, algorithms, access or whatever number somebody wants to brag about this week.
The album finally sends everybody stumbling toward the exit with “We Gotta Leave,” exhausted, carrying too much shit, arguing about food and somehow already remembering the weekend like it was the greatest idea we ever had. The full ride goes “Welcome to the Carnival,” “That’s Facts,” “Press Pass Problems,” “Side Quest,” “Nobody Interviews Like Mega,” “Badge Behavior,” “Roast Mode,” “Fan First” and “We Gotta Leave.” Now the sequence has a real story: we enter the carnival, establish where we came from, get buried under the work, lose control of the schedule, handle the interviews, spend money we weren’t supposed to spend, roast the madness, remember why we love this culture and finally drag our asses home.
That’s CREATORS CARNIVAL. That’s Big WEPA Music Studios. That’s Comic Crusaders DNA translated into music: New York attitude, Puerto Rican soul, hip-hop grit, comics, comedy, creator love and enough WEPA energy to shake Javits. I’m not trying to make music that sounds like everybody else’s shit. I’m trying to build something that sounds like US, because twenty years into this Crusade I’m still here, still creating, still discovering new voices, still talking my shit and, most importantly, still a fucking fan.
Big WEPA Music Studios x Comic Crusaders. The Crusade Never Ends. WEPAAAA!
