Review: DOMINATRIX HELLBENT IN HEELS OGN
Synopsis:
Dominique is tangled in a world of intrigue thanks to her client named Doug. Doug is a secret government operative. While she’s involved with Doug, her life is in turmoil. Her friend is in the hospital. She, herself, has been sexually assaulted and her life is in constant danger. She finds it odd that her new life has been found strangely appealing. This issue opens with our hero just arriving home after a morning jog. She receives a package and it turns out to be a phone from Doug. She immediately smashes the phone, annoyed with his tactics and then he actually shows up. The tension between these characters is obvious from the get go.
The Creative Team:
Erik Hendrix is having a lot of fun with these characters and his off beat Kiss references throughout. The chemistry between the two leads is a dynamic one. We don’t know if they want to get married or kill each other. Opposites definitely attract and these two couldn’t be more opposite. Doug clearly gets on Dominique’s nerves and the more he knows that he annoys her, the more he tries to annoy her. It’s an explosive relationship which makes the title all the more taunting. This story takes us to Hawaii on a dangerous mission in the James Bond mode. Hendrix keeps the suspense building on every page. Great stuff includes the informant Jonah, who was about to tell our hero what was happening, dropping dead in front of her before he could do so and our antagonists literally becoming butterflies before our very eyes.
Kewber Baal never disappoints. His take on theses characters is a clear compliment to the story and he brings the action to the forefront in a unique way, Highlights include the splash where Dominique is thrown down the stairs and the fight between the two female leads. The butterflies are a real treat and Doug’s tumbling out of a helicopter brings a sense of excitement that is heightened as the fight scenes grow more intense. A great comic for adventure fans to be sure.
In Conclusion:
Dominatrix is a female James Bond but with attitude. She doesn’t take any crap from anyone and she’ll kick your ass as soon as look at you. I always love a strong female lead and this issue delivers ten fold. As we approach the end of this issue, Dominique laments about the hopelessness of it all “You know this isn’t going to stop, right? Arms Dealers, Governments, gangs…” Even as this mission comes to a close we know that they have won this battle, with a few interesting twists on the way, but they’re far from winning the war. **** (9.0 rating.)
