From executive producer Diego Luna and director Santiago Maza, State of Silence (Estado De Silencio) comes to Netflix

“This is a documentary that shouldn’t exist, but it does…”

State of Silence explores the challenges of freedom of the press in Mexico from the perspective of four journalists who courageously face them. Through their personal accounts and appearances by other well-known media professionals, the risks they face in reporting the truth are addressed. Available on Netflix in Latin America and the US from October 17.

The documentary premiered this year at prestigious film festivals around the world, including the Sheffield Film Festival (UK), Tribeca International Film Festival (USA) and the Guadalajara International Film Festival (Mexico), among others. It also won Best Feature Film at the Santiago International Film Festival (Chile).

From director Santiago Maza (Reasonable Doubt), producer Abril López (Things We Dare Not Do) and executive producer Diego Luna (César Chavez, Narcos: México), the documentary follows the testimonies of four journalists from different states in Mexico (Juan de Dios García, María de Jesús Peters, Marcos Vizcarra, and Jesús Medina) and explores their lives after receiving threats for reporting the truth.
