Halloween Team Is Back! Danny Baram on Shadows #2 & Indie Horror Comics | Comic Crusaders Podcast #777

There’s something fitting about a horror comic refusing to stay dead. Writer and creator Danny Baram returns to the Comic Crusaders Podcast as Halloween Team: Shadows #2 finally makes its way to readers after a long road filled with publishing changes, creative adjustments and one hell of a comeback.

Halloween Team follows five childhood friends who once fought monsters together in Greenwood, Massachusetts. When they reunite as adults, they discover the supernatural mess they thought they escaped has only gotten worse, especially after learning that their forgotten friend Gwen has been trapped in hell for years.

That revelation drives Shadows, but the real hook is what it does to the people left behind. Casey’s magic caused the group to forget Gwen existed, Josh no longer trusts her, Tommy is desperate to bring Gwen home, and the team is technically reunited while emotionally falling apart.

Issue #2 pushes that conflict even harder while expanding the mythology of Greenwood and introducing new threats tied to the town’s darker history. Danny has also brought Danny Roberts into the creative team, with Roberts contributing updated lettering, design and a new cover before taking over full interior art beginning with Issue #3.

We talk about returning to self-publishing, rebuilding momentum after a project stalls, working with a new artist, writing horror around characters readers actually care about and why digital distribution gives indie creators options that simply did not exist a few years ago. Halloween Team: Shadows #2 is available now through digital comics retailers, with Issues #3 and #4 planned to continue the story.

Check out my conversation with Danny Baram as we talk monsters, friendship, self-publishing, indie comics and what happens when the thing you created refuses to stay buried.
