First Look: Act 4 Publishing & Skybound Unveil The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition

Spider-Man fans, comic historians, and original art collectors — yeah, this one’s for you.

Skybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, have revealed an exclusive art preview from The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition, and let’s be real… this is the kind of release that makes comic fans stop everything and just stare in awe. This oversized powerhouse arrives in comic shops on June 24, 2026, and hits bookstores on July 21, 2026.

This isn’t just another fancy collection. This is a full-on love letter to one of the most important visual storytellers in comic book history.

The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition showcases some of the most legendary work ever published by Marvel, including Amazing Fantasy #15 — Spidey’s historic first appearance — along with three complete and unforgettable stories: The Amazing Spider-Man #20, #26, and #33. And yes, that includes issue #33, the all-time classic many fans consider the absolute peak of Ditko’s Spider-Man brilliance.

This massive 15” x 22” Artist’s Edition goes big in every possible way, featuring dozens of iconic splash pages, story pages, covers, and more, all scanned directly from the original art. That means fans get a rare chance to experience Ditko’s work in its raw, beautiful form — the real deal, in full size, with every artistic detail intact.

And it gets even sweeter.

The book also includes a rare selection of scanned photocopies of Steve Ditko’s seldom-seen pencil art from The Amazing Spider-Man #31, presented side by side with the published inked pages. On top of that, readers will also get scanned art from more than 20 additional issues, making this release feel less like a book and more like a sacred artifact for Spider-Man devotees.

“Steve Ditko’s monumental work on Spider-Man has long been a holy grail for me,” said Scott Dunbier. “It will soon be a dream realized to have this Artist’s Edition in my hands and be able to peruse Ditko’s magnificent art in all its glory!”

And that’s exactly what makes this edition so special. It gives fans an inside look at the genius of Steve Ditko, the co-creator of one of the most recognizable superheroes on the planet, in a format worthy of his legacy.

“The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko shows how Act 4’s Artist’s Editions make fans’ dreams come true like never before,” said Sean Mackiewicz, SVP, Publisher, Skybound. “Steve Ditko’s art made us fall in love with comics, and now everyone can appreciate all the emotion and drama he captured on the board, that’s inspired countless artists and comics since!”

For those new to the format, an Artist’s Edition is basically an art book disguised as a comic collection — and a glorious one at that. While the pages may appear black and white at first glance, the artwork is actually scanned in color, allowing readers to see every subtle detail of the original boards: ink textures, blue pencil marks, edits, shading, and all the little imperfections that make original comic art feel alive. Honestly, the only way to get closer to this material would be standing over the artist’s shoulder while they were drawing it.

This release also kicks off the next big chapter in the collaboration between Act 4 Publishing and Skybound, with Doctor Strange by Paul Smith Artist’s Edition already lined up for 2026. So yeah, this partnership is not playing around.
