Shero Comics Announces the Launch of “The Shero Universe” Miniseries

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Rise of a Female-Led Comic Book Empire

Shero Comics, the groundbreaking publishing company known for empowering stories featuring Black women and girls, is thrilled to announce the launch of its highly anticipated online micro docuseries, The Shero Universe. Premiering tomorrow on Shero Comics’ Instagram and YouTube pages, this captivating short-form series offers an intimate look at the history of Shero Comics and the extraordinary journey of its award-winning founder and CEO, Shequeta Smith.

From Smith’s vibrant childhood in the 1980s, where the bold colors and creative culture of the era inspired her boundless imagination, to the unforgettable twists of her life-changing trip to South Korea with the religious cult known as The Moonies, The Shero Universe unveils the personal and professional milestones that shaped Shero Comics. The series culminates in the company’s celebration of its 10th comic book release, Young Grandmaster Choi II, a testament to the resilience and vision of its female founder.

The Shero Universe is more than a retrospective—it’s a celebration of creativity, determination, and the power of storytelling,” said Shequeta Smith. “Through this series, we hope to inspire the next generation of creators to embrace their unique paths and dream big.”

Each episode of the miniseries offers viewers an intimate glimpse into the pivotal moments that shaped the rise of Shero Comics. From its humble beginnings to becoming a leading voice in the fight for media representation, the series chronicles the brand’s journey with authenticity and heart. It also sets the stage for Shero Comics’ upcoming feature-length documentary of the same name, which promises a deeper dive into the inspiring story behind the company and a rare exploration of the history of Black women in comics.

The launch of The Shero Universe comes at a significant moment for Shero Comics, following a year of remarkable achievements. These include the success of the Young Grandmaster Choi series in combating book bans, the induction of Shero Comics’ entire catalog of works into the Library of Congress, and an upcoming honor for CEO Shequeta Smith. Next week, Smith will be recognized by the Los Angeles Lakers and Comerica Bank with the prestigious 2025 Woman of Diversity Award, which will be presented during the Miami Heat game at Crypto.com Arena.
