Barbie: Together in Time kicks off a new ongoing series from Dark Horse and Mattel in February 2027.
Barbie is heading back to comic shops, and apparently, saving the world isn’t enough anymore. Now she’s got to rescue Ken from a time-travel disaster, too. Dark Horse Comics and Mattel announced a brand-new ongoing Barbie comic series at New York Comic Con 2026, starting with a six-issue adventure called Barbie: Together in Time. Because nothing says relationship drama quite like accidentally getting yourself erased from the present.
The new series comes from writer Ben Kahn (Renegade Rule, Mr. Muffins: Defender of the Stars), artist Natalie Nardozza, colorist Heather Breckel, and letterer Frank Cvetkovic. Bowen McCurdy provides the main cover, with variants from Laia Lopez, Gretel Lusky, and Paulina Ganucheau, plus a blank variant for anyone feeling creative. It’s a colorful lineup for a story that looks ready to mix science fiction, friendship, and Barbie’s ridiculous number of career choices.
So, what’s the drama this time? Barbie and Ken decide to surprise another Barbie during her science internship, but the visit doesn’t exactly go as planned. After getting brushed off, Ken wanders into a supercollider experiment and disappears. Seriously, Ken? One awkward interaction and suddenly we’re messing with the space-time continuum?
Now Barbie and Barbie have to team up with their mentor, Dr. von Science, to track down Ken’s scattered time energy across different eras. Each issue sends them into another historical period, with appearances inspired by classic Barbie dolls from throughout the brand’s history. It’s a clever way to bring Barbie’s fashion legacy into the story without making the whole thing feel like a glorified toy catalog.
There’s also something pretty fun about seeing Barbie tackle a science-fiction adventure where the girls are the ones figuring everything out. The setup gives the creative team room to play with different historical settings, fashion, and whatever chaos comes from chasing pieces of Ken through time. Hopefully, Ken learns to stay away from experimental machinery after this, although I wouldn’t bet my Dreamhouse on it.
Barbie: Together in Time #1 arrives in comic shops on February 10, 2027, priced at $4.99. The opening storyline runs for six issues and launches the new ongoing Barbie series from Dark Horse and Mattel. Readers can check availability through their local comic shops or use the Find Your Comic Store website to locate a retailer.
Barbie has been an astronaut, a doctor, a scientist, and just about everything else imaginable, so time traveler might as well join the résumé. This new series looks like a fun way to revisit her history while giving readers a fresh adventure instead of another predictable trip through Malibu. Now somebody please keep Ken away from the laboratory equipment.
