Manga Takes Brooklyn: 600+ Original Works Hit the Museum Just in Time for NYCC 2026

New York Comic Con weekend already turns the city into a pop-culture pressure cooker, but this year manga fans have another major stop to put on the map. The Brooklyn Museum opens Art of Manga on October 3, bringing more than 600 original drawings together for what organizers describe as the first major exhibition in the Americas to explore manga as an art form.

The scale alone makes this one worth paying attention to. Rather than treating manga as a side attraction or a merchandise category, the exhibition puts the original artwork front and center, giving visitors a chance to study the drawing, pacing, visual language and storytelling craft behind some of the medium’s most recognizable works. The announced lineup includes material connected to Inuyasha, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Ōoku: The Inner Chambers, ONE PIECE and more, covering creators and series that have shaped generations of readers across very different genres.

For comic fans, that is the real hook. Manga has influenced everything from modern superhero layouts and indie storytelling to animation, gaming and global fandom, yet original pages are still something many American readers rarely get to experience in person. Seeing hundreds of works together gives the form room to breathe as sequential art, design and cultural history, not simply as the source material sitting behind an anime adaptation or a collected volume on the shelf.

The timing is also ridiculously convenient for anyone already coming into New York for NYCC 2026. The exhibition opens five days before the convention kicks off, so visitors can turn the usual Javits Center pilgrimage into a full borough-spanning manga run. Organizers are also offering a Manga Fan Pass with unlimited entry for the passholder and a guest throughout the exhibition’s run, presale access to public programs featuring mangaka, plus discounts on merchandise and food.
