SPOILER WARNING: If you have not read Avengers: Armageddon #4 yet and you care about walking into this one clean, get the hell out now and come back after you hit the comic shop. Marvel just dropped a reveal that is not some cute little end-page tease. David Colton’s mysterious Origin Box power has been tied directly to Miracleman, and that puts one of comics’ most loaded superhero legacies right in the middle of Marvel’s current Avengers event.

The penultimate issue of the five-part series comes from writer Chip Zdarsky with art by Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar. Colton, the 21st-century Captain America introduced during Zdarsky’s Captain America run, has now taken on the Miracleman mantle as the Avengers’ latest crisis keeps escalating. Marvel is clearly not treating this as a throwaway twist either, with Avengers editor Wil Moss saying Zdarsky has plans for Colton that reach beyond this event and into the wider Marvel Universe.

That is what makes this reveal interesting. Miracleman is not just another costume Marvel can slap onto a character for a month and move on from without fans asking questions. The character carries decades of history and a reputation for stories that tore superhero mythology apart, so handing that power and name to Colton immediately raises the stakes around what Marvel plans to do with him next.

Avengers: Armageddon #4 is on sale now, with a newly revealed spoiler variant cover by Michael Cho. The final issue, Avengers: Armageddon #5, arrives October 21, 2026, with art by Delio Diaz, Frank Alpizar and Ario Anindito, plus a newly revealed John Romita Jr. variant that puts Colton’s new identity right on the damn cover.

Marvel says more on Miracleman’s future is coming, so this story is clearly not ending when Armageddon does. You can dig into Marvel’s official announcement at Marvel.com, and Comic Crusaders will be watching where this one goes because this could get real weird, real fast.
