Comic Crusaders Hot List The 10 Hottest Comics for October 20th and 21st 2026

WEPAAAA! THE CRUSADE IS BACK ON THE RACKS!

WEPAAAA! NYCC may be in the rearview, but NEW COMIC BOOK DAY does not take a vacation, baby! Gotham’s going wild, the Avengers are staring down Armageddon, the ThunderCats are roaring back, and the indie publishers are coming for your pull-list money. You already know the drill: ten books, one countdown, plenty of collector chatter, and absolutely ZERO promises that a foil cover is going to pay your mortgage. We’re talking stories, creators, hype and the beautiful madness that keeps us coming back to the racks every week. Brooklyn to the Bronx, Queens to wherever your favorite comic shop calls home, let’s get into it!

Here is the Comic Crusaders Hot List for October 20th and 21st, 2026. All ten picks are listed for Wednesday, October 21. Check with your local shop for availability and variants.

10. Cyberpunk 2077: Jayk’s Case #1

Writer: Jordan Thomas
Artist: Nicola Izzo
Colorist: Igor Monti
Letterer: Frank Cvetkovic
Cover A: Nicola Izzo

Dark Horse Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

Yo, Night City does not do peaceful evenings, and Jayk is about to learn that the hard way! Dark Horse brings us another trip into Cyberpunk 2077’s neon-soaked underbelly, where a murder mystery is basically a Tuesday and everybody’s got an angle. This is the kind of book you hand to your gaming buddy who swears they don’t read comics. Watch how fast that changes once the trouble starts.

WHY IT’S HOT: Night City has a fresh mystery, a new #1 on the racks and an entire Cyberpunk fanbase ready to investigate. If this debut delivers, you’ll want to be there before the spoilers start flying.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Standard Cover A by Nicola Izzo

9. ThunderCats #1

Dynamite Entertainment

Writer: Greg Pak
Colorist: Igor Monti
Letterer: Jeff Eckleberry
Artist: David Cousens
Cover A: Mark Spears

On Sale: October 21, 2026

THUNDER, THUNDER, THUNDERCATS, HOOOO! Come on, fam, you KNOW somebody just yelled that in the shop. Dynamite is bringing the Cats back with a fresh #1, and nostalgia alone will have a few wallets trembling. Still, we are not buying a logo and calling it a masterpiece. Greg Pak and David Cousens have to deliver the goods. The fun is finding out whether this new chapter has claws or just a shiny coat.

WHY IT’S HOT: A brand-new #1, a legendary franchise and a fanbase that still knows the battle cry by heart. The real question: is this the ThunderCats comeback collectors will be talking about next month?

RECOMMENDED COVER: Standard Cover A by Mark Spears

8. G.I. Joe #27

Image Comics / Skybound

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Tom Reilly
Colorist: Lee Loughridge
Cover A: Tom Reilly

On Sale: October 21, 2026

YO JOE! The Energon Universe keeps throwing gasoline on the fire, and G.I. Joe is not about to sit quietly while everybody else gets the spotlight. Joshua Williamson’s run has been building a world where every alliance feels like it could explode at any second. You can practically hear the arguments at the counter already. Grab your copy, read the issue, then tell me whose side you’re on, because this universe is getting messy in the best way.

WHY IT’S HOT: Skybound’s Energon Universe has fans watching every move, and the Joes are sitting on a powder keg. One major development could have collectors and longtime readers debating this issue all week.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Standard Cover A by Tom Reilly

7. Amazing Spider-Man: Halloween Special #1

Writer: Justina Ireland
Artist: Mike Hawthorne
Colorist: Erick Arciniega
Cover A: Mike Hawthorne
Variant covers: Paco Medina and Todd Nauck

Marvel Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

Only Peter Parker could go trick-or-treating and somehow end up with a supervillain, a personal crisis and a rent payment due by midnight. Spidey gets the Halloween treatment, and October is the perfect excuse for Marvel to let the weirdness loose. This is a seasonal rack grab for the Spider-fans who want a little spooky chaos without signing up for seventeen tie-ins. Just remember, a cool cover is the appetizer. The story better bring the candy.

WHY IT’S HOT: Spidey meets spooky season in a one-shot built for October pull lists. A perfect grab for Marvel diehards, Halloween-cover hunters and anyone who loves seeing Peter Parker dragged into supernatural nonsense.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Cover A by Mike Hawthorne.

6. Detective Comics #1114

Writer: Tom Taylor
Interior artist: Jeff Spokes
Cover A: Mikel Janín

DC Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

Gotham has problems, fam, and I don’t mean the subway being late. The Bad Seeds mess keeps spreading through Batman’s city, and Detective Comics is right in the thick of it. I love when Gotham stories remember the place is full of actual people trying to survive the madness, not just billionaires in capes. The Bat-fans are going to dissect every development, and you already know somebody will declare this the most important issue of the month before lunch.

WHY IT’S HOT: Gotham’s Bad Seeds storyline keeps tightening the screws. Batman readers chasing the full picture won’t want to miss a potentially pivotal Detective chapter, especially when every clue fuels another theory.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Cover A by Mikel Janín.

5. Wonder Woman #38

Writer: Tom King
Artist: Daniel Sampere
Cover A: Daniel Sampere

DC Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

DIANA IS NOT HERE TO PLAY! Wonder War keeps turning up the pressure, and the Matriarch is not exactly the type to settle things over cafecito. Wonder Woman deserves a place in the big-event conversation right beside Gotham and the Avengers. If you’ve been sleeping on her book, this is your wake-up call. Bring the popcorn, because when the Amazons go to war, the consequences don’t stay neatly inside one panel.

WHY IT’S HOT: Diana’s Wonder War is heating up, and the Matriarch conflict gives readers a reason to watch every confrontation. Big stakes, Amazon drama and the kind of issue that could spark serious debate.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Cover A by Daniel Sampere.

4. Arrivals #1

Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artists: Mike Del Mundo, Mike Huddleston and Christian Ward
Cover A: Mike Huddleston

Dark Horse Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

Now THIS is why we never let the Big Two hog the whole rack! Arrivals opens another door into Jonathan Hickman’s 3W3M world, and you already know the man loves giving readers a puzzle with seventeen pieces they didn’t realize were missing. Sci-fi heads, world-building junkies and indie hunters, pull up. This is the kind of debut you discover early, recommend to three friends and then act like you founded the fan club. Don’t be that guy. Share the love.

WHY IT’S HOT: A new doorway into Hickman’s 3W3M universe is exactly the kind of indie debut curious readers love to discover early. Fresh mythology, ambitious sci-fi and a chance to get in before the fandom explodes.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Cover A by Mike Huddleston.

3. It Demands Sacrifice #1

Writers: Philip Gelatt and David Yarovesky
Artist: Adam Pollina
Colorist: Dean White
Pictured variant cover: Patrick Horvath

Bad Idea

On Sale: October 7, 2026

BAD IDEA IS BACK TO TEST YOUR SELF-CONTROL! A new #1 with a whole parade of variants? Somewhere, a collector just whispered, ‘I’m only buying Cover A,’ and absolutely nobody believed him. Patrick Horvath’s cover is a nasty little beauty, and the indie scene needs publishers willing to swing for the fences. Just don’t confuse cover-chasing with a guaranteed payday. Buy the art you love, read the damn story, and let the speculators argue with their spreadsheets.

WHY IT’S HOT: BAD IDEA is tempting collectors with a new #1 and an eye-catching lineup of covers, including Patrick Horvath’s. Is it the next indie obsession or just beautiful trouble for your wallet? Either way, people are looking.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Patrick Horvath variant cover (pictured).

2. Avengers: Armageddon #5

Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artists: Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar
Pictured cover artist: Dike Ruan

Marvel Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

AVENGERS, ASSEMBLE YOUR PATIENCE, because this finale better PAY OFF! Armageddon reaches issue five, and after all the buildup, readers deserve consequences that actually stick. You know how this goes: one fan is cheering, another is furious, and somebody is already explaining why a single panel changes Marvel continuity forever. I want a finale that gives us something worth arguing about next week, not just another teaser for the next event.

WHY IT’S HOT: This is the payoff issue! Avengers: Armageddon reaches its finale, where big reveals, lasting fallout and furious fan theories are all on the table. If you followed the event, missing the ending is not an option.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Dike Ruan cover (pictured); edition designation not confirmed.

1. Absolute Green Arrow #6

Writer: Pornsak Pichetshote
Artist: Rafael Albuquerque
Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
Cover A: Rafael Albuquerque

DC Comics

On Sale: October 21, 2026

BULLSEYE, BABY! Absolute Green Arrow takes our #1 spot because the Green Arrow Killer mystery is heading for its big reveal, and the first arc is ready to leave a mark. The Absolute line has been giving DC fans plenty to argue about, and this one has the potential to set the shop chatter on FIRE. We’re not spoiling a damn thing. Read it, come back and tell me whether the payoff landed. Just don’t walk in here acting like you called every twist from page one. We know you didn’t!

WHY IT’S HOT: THE REVEAL IS HERE! The Green Arrow Killer mystery hits its first-arc finale, and the Absolute Universe faithful are about to have plenty to argue over. Mystery payoff, potential surprises and serious Wednesday-morning buzz make this our #1.

RECOMMENDED COVER: Cover A by Rafael Albuquerque.

THERE YOU HAVE IT, CRUSADERS! Ten books ready to fight for space in your pull box, and I already know somebody is yelling that their favorite got robbed. GOOD! That’s what makes this fun. Tell us what you’re grabbing, which variant has your wallet in a headlock, and which indie deserves more love. Remember to show your local comic shop some love, support the creators putting in the work, and never let somebody else’s hype tell you what to enjoy. I’m Al Mega, and until next week’s madness, keep reading, keep collecting and keep the conversation LOUD!

THE CRUSADE NEVER ENDS!
