Mister Invincible Redux Is Back to Break Every Comic Book Rule—and We’re Here for It!

·Al Mega

WEPAAAAAAAA! CRUSADERS, SOMEBODY CALL THE COMICS POLICE BECAUSE THIS SUPERHERO JUST ESCAPED HIS OWN PANEL!

Forget flying. Forget heat vision. Forget another brooding dude standing on a rooftop wondering whether the city deserves him. Mister Invincible is out here doing something far more dangerous: treating the actual comic-book page like his personal playground. And now Pascal Jousselin’s wonderfully unhinged creation is coming back with Mister Invincible Redux!

Magnetic Press, in partnership with Oni Press, is bringing the hero back on January 27, 2027, in a 144-page edition priced at $24.99. The big hook? 48 brand-new pages. That’s more room for a hero who already refuses to stay where the artist puts him.

Mister Invincible doesn’t simply punch bad guys. He can exploit the gutters between panels, reach into moments that haven’t happened yet, and turn the page’s layout into part of the action. A border that keeps ordinary characters in place becomes a doorway. A sequence that usually tells readers what happens next becomes a playground for slapstick, surprises and genuinely clever visual storytelling.

Think about how often we read comics on autopilot: left to right, panel to panel, page after page. Jousselin grabs that entire rulebook, folds it into a paper airplane and sends it flying across the room. The joke isn’t just that his hero breaks the fourth wall. The joke is that the wall never stood a chance.

I’m always telling creators that comics can do things movies and television simply cannot. Mister Invincible is practically Exhibit A. The storytelling isn’t a screenplay chopped into pictures; the physical grammar of comics is the storytelling. That’s the kind of inventive madness that reminds you why this medium deserves respect.

And don’t let the playful presentation fool you. Making a gag work across multiple panels takes serious craft. Every visual payoff depends on timing, reader expectation and the way your eye travels across the page. Jousselin makes that machinery look effortless, which is half the magic.

Whether you’re introducing a younger reader to comics or you’re a veteran who thinks you’ve seen every superhero gimmick in existence, this one offers a delightful challenge: try predicting where the character is going next. Good luck with that, papi!
