Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake #1 Brings the Circus Kingdom to Oni Press

Fionna and Cake are stepping back into the comics spotlight, and Oni Press is sending them straight under the big top.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake #1 launches a new four-issue event from writer Jenna Ayoub and artist Damali Beatty on January 13, 2027. The story brings the duo to the Circus Kingdom after an invitation from Prince Gumball to attend a one-night-only spectacle.

Things go sideways when Ice Queen discovers she wasn’t invited and decides she isn’t just crashing the show. She’s taking it over. That leaves Fionna and Cake dealing with a newly crowned ringleader, circus chaos and exactly the kind of Ooo-level nonsense fans should expect.

Oni editor Megan Brown says the publisher heard the demand for more Fionna and Cake comics and built the new series around a colorful circus adventure with familiar faces, new characters and plenty of shenanigans.

WEPAAAA! Fionna and Cake are headed to the circus, fam, and you already know nobody in this universe can enjoy one innocent night out without somebody turning it into a full-blown magical headache. Prince Gumball sends an invitation, Ice Queen takes the exclusion personally, and suddenly the big top has a new boss. Somebody should’ve checked that guest list twice.

What makes this setup fun is how naturally it fits the oddball spirit of Adventure Time. A circus kingdom already promises strange performers, wild surprises and plenty of room for visual comedy. Throw in an uninvited Ice Queen trying to run the whole spectacle and the story has an excuse to get wonderfully ridiculous without losing sight of Fionna and Cake’s friendship.

Jenna Ayoub and Damali Beatty are carrying the four-issue adventure, while the variant-cover lineup gives collectors a bunch of different looks at the returning duo. The series also answers a pretty simple demand from fans: more time with these characters, more weird corners of their world and more trouble than anybody reasonably needs. I’m not saying Ice Queen should’ve received a ticket, but somebody might’ve saved themselves a whole lot of chaos.

The first issue features covers by Jenna Ayoub, Nicole Goux, Reggie Graham, Dakota Cates and Calculus Homework, along with a blank sketch variant and foil edition. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake #1 is 32 pages, priced at $4.99 and arrives January 13.
