Dungeon Crawler Carl Gets Monthly Comic Series From Vault Comics in 2027

·Al Mega

WEPAAAA! Carl and Princess Donut are getting another way to wreck your monthly comic budget, fam. Vault Comics and creator Matt Dinniman have announced an ongoing Dungeon Crawler Carl comic book series, and this time the alien dungeon madness is heading straight to comic shop shelves.

Launching in January 2027, the new series will serialize the popular webtoon adaptation, written by Dinniman and Tevagah with art by Laurel Pursuit Studios and Kuzomari. Vault says the artwork will be scaled up to suit the traditional comic-book page. Issue #1 clocks in at a chunky 48 pages, combining the webtoon’s first two episodes, with monthly issues following.

For the uninitiated, Dungeon Crawler Carl follows Coast Guard veteran Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive a world-ending, trap-packed fantasy dungeon that doubles as a galactic reality show. Yes, the audience is watching. Yes, the stakes are ridiculous. That’s part of the appeal.

Artist Nathan Gooden, known for Barbaric, will provide the main covers. The announced variant-cover roster includes Ryan Ottley, Brett Bean, Frank Cho, Clayton Crain, Yoshi Yoshitani, Katie Cook, Riley Rossmo, Tyler Walpole, Doug Mahnke, Trish Forstner, Todd Beats, Tony Moy and original novel-cover artist Luciano Fleitas. That’s a lineup built to make variant collectors sweat.

Vault says the novel series has sold more than 19 million copies. The publisher also points to a television adaptation in development at Peacock, with Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer attached as co-showrunners. Between novels, webtoons, television plans and now monthly comics, Carl’s dungeon has become a full-on multimedia obstacle course.

The big question is how the enlarged webtoon artwork will read in a print-first format. That transition can make or break the rhythm of a page, and this series has a whole lot of action, comedy and chaos to juggle. Still, a double-sized debut gives new readers a solid chance to jump in.

Dungeon Crawler Carl #1 arrives in comic shops in January 2027 from Vault Comics. An exact release day and cover prices were not specified in the announcement. Crusaders, are you joining Carl and Donut for the monthly ride, or are you already too deep in the dungeon to escape?
