SCHOLASTIC CELEBRATES NATIONAL CAT MONTH WITH SAPHIE AND CAT LOAF ADVENTURES

·Al Mega

September is National Cat Month, which means the tiny furry dictators running our homes finally get the official recognition they clearly believe they deserve every single day. Scholastic’s Graphix line has two comic picks built for younger readers who like their cats with personality, chaos and absolutely no respect for a peaceful afternoon: Saphie the One-Eyed Cat and Cat Loaf Adventures.

Saphie the One-Eyed Cat comes from JOHO, also known as Joanna Ho, and began life as a WEBTOON comic before making the jump to Graphix. Saphie knows what she wants, and apparently what she wants is to mess around with her furry siblings while everybody else deals with the consequences. The first volume released February 4, 2025 for readers ages 7 to 10, with Saphie the One-Eyed Cat Volume 2 continuing the series.

Then there is Cat Loaf Adventures Volume 1 by kat.ariyn, another WEBTOON-born comic that Graphix brought to print. This one leans into bigger adventure and wonderfully goofy fantasy, sending Cat Loaf up against the evil Lord Cinnabuns while introducing creatures like elusive chocolate mousses. Yes, those are actual names, and no, I am not mad at any of this.

Cat Loaf Adventures Volume 1 released August 4, 2026 for readers ages 8 to 12, so it is still fresh on shelves for National Cat Month. A second volume is already on the way, giving young readers who fall into this strange little world something else to look forward to.

Both books have that sweet spot where kid-friendly comics can be ridiculous without talking down to the audience. Cats already behave like they are starring in their own ongoing series anyway, so turning that energy into comics feels less like fiction and more like somebody finally documenting the evidence.

Whether your house belongs to a one-eyed troublemaker, an adventure-seeking loaf or a perfectly ordinary cat who has convinced you that 3 a.m. is breakfast time, September gives you a pretty good excuse to add another cat comic to the reading pile.
