Something Is Killing the Children #50 Brings Erica Slaughter Back With a Surprise Trading Card

WEPAAAA! Issue #50 means BOOM! Studios and Tiny Onion are not showing up with a cupcake and a gold foil logo. They are turning Something Is Killing the Children #50 into a full collector event, while still making sure Erica Slaughter’s story is the reason anybody should care in the first place.
The milestone issue arrives October 7, 2026 and brings Erica Slaughter back to the present day after the brutal Tribulation saga. The big surprise is sitting inside the Cover C Blind Bag Variant: every blind bag includes an exclusive Erica Slaughter trading card tied to a still-secret Something Is Killing the Children tabletop game, making the issue both a story beat and the first official tease of another branch of the Slaughterverse.
That card is the first officially revealed collectible from the upcoming game. BOOM! and Tiny Onion are not giving away the full tabletop plan yet, but they are making one thing clear: they see this world as bigger than the monthly comic. James Tynion IV called issue #50 a milestone and said the blind bag program was built to go big, with a stack of cover artwork fans might pull plus a guaranteed trading card connected to the game they plan to reveal in greater detail soon.

Tiny Onion’s Eric Harburn also pointed to the company’s push into tabletop gaming following Exquisite Corpses: The Game, saying the world Tynion and Werther Dell’Edera built is packed with characters, monsters and mythology that they have wanted to bring into tabletop for a long time. That makes the card more than random swag stuffed into a bag. It is the first physical breadcrumb for a new project they clearly expect readers to follow.
The comic itself is not getting lost behind the collectible hustle. After the nightmare of the Tribulation saga, Erica is wrecked by her encounter with Cutter, Gabi’s death and the fact that the Order is still breathing down her neck. Her escape takes her back toward Valmont Mountain Lodge, a place loaded with history for her and the kind of location this series can turn from refuge to nightmare in about three pages.
That setup gives issue #50 some real emotional weight. Erica is not simply moving to the next monster-of-the-month problem. She is going back toward a place connected to who she was, while carrying the damage of everything that has happened since. The question is whether Valmont gives her room to breathe or just puts another target in front of her.

The blind bag program adds another layer for collectors, with multiple pieces of cover artwork possible inside while the trading card is guaranteed. For readers who have been following Erica for years, this is the continuation of the story. For cover hunters, it is a chase. For tabletop fans, it is the first hint of a game that could turn the mythology into something interactive.
Something Is Killing the Children was created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. Tynion’s horror work includes The Nice House on the Lake and The Department of Truth, while Dell’Edera’s credits span BOOM!, Dark Horse, DC Vertigo, IDW, Image and more. That creative consistency is a huge part of why the series has lasted long enough to reach fifty without feeling like a brand zombie dragging itself across the finish line.
Something Is Killing the Children #50 hits comic shops October 7, 2026 from BOOM! Studios. When a comic reaches fifty issues in this market and is still expanding instead of coasting, that deserves attention. Erica Slaughter is back in the present, the Order is still a problem, and apparently a whole new game is coming with her.
