WEPAAAA! New York Comic Con week is already swinging, and Image Comics just dropped a dark fantasy announcement with some serious sword-and-sorcery muscle behind it. Writer Jim Zub and artist Alberto J. Alburquerque are teaming up for Omen-Bound, a new ongoing series launching from Image Comics in March 2027.
Before the series hits comic shops next year, fans at NYCC 2026 are getting the first crack at it. A limited black-and-white Omen-Bound Preview Edition will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Artist Alley tables I-33 and A-33, giving convention attendees an early look at the cast and the dangerous world of the Untaken Lands.
Omen-Bound follows a skilled group of warriors and priests from a strict religious order charged with escorting a dangerous supernatural prisoner back to a realm beyond reality. The deeper the journey goes, the more secrets surface about the characters and their world, with Image describing the series as a mix of classic sword-and-sorcery adventure and intense emotional stakes.
Zub, whose fantasy work includes Conan the Barbarian and Dungeons & Dragons, said the project gives him a chance to finally explore fantasy concepts and characters that did not fit into the established worlds he has worked in. He is joined by Alburquerque, colorist Misty Coats and letterer Marshall Dillon.
Alburquerque called the series a passion project and said he knew he had “hit the jackpot” after seeing Zub’s early notes. The creative team is clearly coming into this one ready to build a new fantasy world from the ground up rather than simply remix familiar territory.
Omen-Bound #1 arrives in comic shops and on digital platforms in March 2027. If you are hitting NYCC this week and want that limited preview, make those Artist Alley tables part of the mission because first-come, first-served at NYCC usually means somebody is walking away empty-handed.
