Comic Crusaders HOT List: The Books Bringing the Heat This Week of July 14th & July 15th, 2026

·Al Mega

WEPAAAA! New Comic Book Day is here, and the racks are loaded with enough heat to make your pull list start sweating. This week’s Comic Crusaders HOT List cuts through the variant-cover chaos, manufactured buzz, fan speculation and retailer chatter to spotlight the ten releases generating the most excitement across the entire industry. From potential key issues and massive franchise collisions to creator-driven launches and indie books ready to explode, these are the comics demanding attention for July 14–15, 2026.

1. Avengers: Armageddon #2 – Marvel

This is the week’s clearest speculation target. A mysterious new hero with power compared to the Sentry reportedly debuts while confronting Red Hulk and the Avengers-possibly named Devasation. Add the promised Avengers shakeup, Chip Zdarsky and eleven covers, and the hype machine is fully operational. Heat: Nuclear. Risk: Medium.

2. Absolute Green Arrow #3 – DC

The Absolute Universe introduction of Roy Harper makes this the strongest DC key candidate. The series is already ranking near the top of weekly popularity tracking, and Absolute-character debuts remain collector catnip. Do not sleep on Cover A while everybody chases incentives like caffeinated pigeons. Heat: Blazing. Risk: Low–Medium.

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin-Training Day #1 – IDW

Michelangelo returns in a 68-page story set between chapters of the original saga, training Casey Marie Jones and setting connective tissue for Last Ronin III. IDW says the Roninverse has moved more than 2.5 million comics and graphic novels. That is not artificial hype-that is an established army. Heat: Blazing. Risk: Low.

4. Dark Knights of Steel II #1 – DC

Tom Taylor and Otto Schmidt return to DC’s medieval Elseworld for a new 12-issue sequel involving underwater warfare, hidden traitors and another massive fantasy conflict. Strong fan recognition, a clean entry point and only six listed covers give this better long-term footing than the usual variant circus. Heat: Blazing. Risk: Low.

5. Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1 – IDW

The first comic-book collision between Sonic and Godzilla brings Eggman, Shadow, Knuckles, Mothra, Mechagodzilla and two enormous fandoms into one playground. Fourteen covers-including 1:75 and 1:100 incentives-will create immediate collector activity, although that many variants can split demand. Heat: Kaiju-sized. Risk: Medium.

6. Three Worlds/Three Moons: Foundations #1 – Dark Horse

Jonathan Hickman, Mike del Mundo, Mike Huddleston and Nick Spencer launch an enormous science-versus-magic universe. New Hickman mythology always attracts readers carrying notebooks, flowcharts and possibly emergency oxygen. This is the week’s strongest new-universe/IP speculation play. Heat: Rising rapidly. Risk: Medium.

7. Dungeon Crawler Carl Special Edition #0 – Vault

The franchise brings 5.6 million Webtoon reads and 225,000 subscribers, making this far bigger than an ordinary indie launch. However, it is a reprint with an absolutely bonkers 82 listed covers. Huge fandom heat; questionable scarcity. Buy the cover you love and leave the pallet-flipping to somebody else. Heat: High. Risk: High.

8. Punisher vs. Spider-Man #1 – Marvel

Dan Abnett revisits the characters’ earliest encounters shortly after Amazing Spider-Man #129. It has nostalgia, New York violence, ten covers and two characters whose moral disagreements usually end with somebody flying through drywall. Strong readership play; less obvious as a lasting key unless the promised surprises deliver. Heat: High. Risk: Medium.

9. Super Mondo Mega Mutts #1 – Oni Press

Curt Pires and Juan Gedeon introduce four transformed research dogs fighting corrupt contractors and alien-powered gangs inside a physics-bending Los Angeles quarantine zone. It is loud, visually marketable and built like an adaptation-ready indie property-but eleven covers could overfeed the market. Heat: Sneaky hot. Risk: Medium–High.

10. Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #11 – Image

Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley keep one of Image’s hottest franchise expansions swinging, with Battle Beast’s latest confrontation continuing beyond a single issue. Strong Invincible fandom and twelve variants keep it high on popularity boards, although this is primarily a reader-and-cover play rather than a confirmed key. Heat: High. Risk: Medium.

This week’s winner: Avengers: Armageddon #2 owns the speculation crown, but Absolute Green Arrow #3 may be the smarter rack-price grab. Last Ronin: Training Day is the safest pure-fandom purchase. Do not buy twenty copies because somebody screamed “KEY ALERT” into a ring light.

As always, collect smart, support your local comic shop and remember: hype fades, but a great story keeps fighting long after Wednesday is over. The Crusade Never Ends! 🔥📚⚔️
