Comics Authority Breaks from Industry Gatekeeping with New Creator Program

Independent publishing platform welcomes traditionally illustrated, AI-assisted, and hybrid comics while allowing creators to retain ownership of their work

As artificial intelligence continues shaking up the creative world—and turning nearly every conversation into a digital bar fight—one independent comics publisher is taking a different approach.

Comics Authority has officially launched its new Creator Program, opening its platform to comic books produced through traditional illustration, AI-assisted creation, or a combination of both.

Instead of drawing battle lines based on the tools used to make a comic, the platform wants readers to focus on what ultimately matters: the story, the artwork, the imagination, and whether the finished book is actually worth reading.

“Our goal isn’t to decide how creators should create,” said Chris English, founder of Comics Authority. “Our goal is to help creators find readers. Whether a comic is illustrated entirely by hand, created with AI assistance, or produced using a hybrid workflow, great stories deserve an audience.”

The Creator Program offers independent publishers, writers, and artists an alternative to the page-by-page serialization model used by many webcomic platforms. Creators can instead publish complete digital comic books that readers can download free of charge.

For creators producing physical editions, Comics Authority also provides integrated print comic sales within the United States. This gives participating creators an opportunity to generate revenue from their work while retaining ownership of their intellectual property.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Creators keep their IP. In this business, that sentence alone deserves its own spotlight.

Each participant receives access to a personalized creator dashboard where they can:

  • Publish complete digital comic books
  • Offer printed editions for sale
  • Track reader downloads
  • Monitor sales performance
  • View creator earnings
  • Manage multiple published titles from one account

The program arrives as the comic book industry continues wrestling with the opportunities, ethical questions, and growing controversy surrounding AI-generated artwork.

While much of the conversation has focused on whether AI-assisted work should be allowed within comics, Comics Authority is positioning its platform around creator access rather than creative exclusion.

“We believe independent publishing should be about expanding opportunities, not limiting them,” English said. “Traditional artists and AI-assisted creators aren’t enemies. They’re creators who all share the same dream—telling stories that people enjoy reading.”

That position is guaranteed to spark discussion—and probably a few heated comment sections—but Comics Authority is making its stance clear: the platform will judge completed projects by their quality rather than automatically rejecting creators because of the production methods they use.

The company also plans to promote selected projects through its growing network of comic book communities and social media channels, helping participating creators reach potential readers beyond the platform.

For independent creators, visibility remains one of the biggest challenges in publishing. Making a comic is difficult. Getting anyone outside your immediate circle to discover it can feel like trying to shout during the final battle of an Avengers movie.

By combining digital distribution, physical sales tools, creator analytics, promotional opportunities, and intellectual-property ownership under one roof, Comics Authority hopes to give emerging creators another path into the market.

The Comics Authority Creator Program is now accepting submissions from independent comic book creators worldwide.

Creators can learn more about the program or submit their work at Comics-Authority.com.
