Daniel Warren Johnson’s Beta Ray Bill Smashes Into Artist’s Edition Glory

·Al Mega

Beta Ray Bill is swinging Stormbreaker back into the spotlight, and this time, the spotlight is oversized, collector-grade, and glowing with pure comic book electricity.

Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, in partnership with Skybound, has announced Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson Artist’s Edition, a massive hardcover celebration of Johnson’s acclaimed Marvel Comics miniseries. The book is set to hit comic shops on February 3, 2027, giving fans a front-row seat to one of the most visually explosive Beta Ray Bill stories ever put to paper.

This Artist’s Edition collects the complete 2021 Beta Ray Bill miniseries, written and illustrated by Eisner Award-winning creator Daniel Warren Johnson, with an introduction from legendary Thor creator and Beta Ray Bill mastermind Walter Simonson. Presented in a towering 12” x 17” format across 144 pages, this release is built for readers who want to see the art breathe, roar, and punch through the page.

Johnson’s work has become a force in modern comics through titles like Do A Powerbomb, Murder Falcon, Extremity, and his acclaimed run on TRANSFORMERS. But with Beta Ray Bill, he took Marvel’s beloved cosmic warrior and gave him something bigger than spectacle. He gave him pain, purpose, fury, humor, heartbreak, and a journey that pushed him far beyond Thor’s shadow.

Johnson called the project an honor, remembering his first Artist’s Edition, Jack Kirby’s New Gods, as a treasured inspiration still kept in his studio. Scott Dunbier praised Johnson’s pages as raw, powerful, and gorgeous, comparing the experience of viewing his art to standing near an artistic nuclear reactor. That’s not hype. That’s a warning label.

For fans unfamiliar with the format, an Artist’s Edition is not just another collected edition. It is the comic book equivalent of being invited into the artist’s studio. The pages are scanned in color, even when they appear black and white, allowing readers to see blue pencil, ink gradients, texture, corrections, and the beautiful fingerprints of the creative process. It is as close as most fans will ever get to holding the original art boards.

Skybound SVP and Publisher Sean Mackiewicz did not hold back either, calling Johnson one of the best artists in comics and saying every page of this edition is a masterpiece. Honestly? The man understood the assignment.

Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson Artist’s Edition continues the growing partnership between Act 4 Publishing and Skybound, joining a powerful lineup of upcoming Artist’s Editions including The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko, George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans, Doctor Strange by Paul Smith, Jason Pearson’s Body Bags, and DC Silver Age Covers and Stories.

With an SRP of $150.00, this is clearly aimed at collectors, original art lovers, Marvel diehards, Daniel Warren Johnson fans, and every Beta Ray Bill believer who knows that sometimes the horse-faced warrior from space deserves the deluxe throne.

The hammer is raised. The art is massive. The cosmic hype is real.
