DC Declares 2027 the Year of Wonder With New Wonder Woman Creative Teams

·Al Mega

Diana of Themyscira is getting a whole year in the spotlight, and DC has lined up some serious talent to make it count. The publisher has declared 2027 the Year of Wonder, a celebration of Wonder Woman’s legacy with new creative teams taking over her flagship comic.

First up: legendary writer Louise Simonson and artist Cian Tormey, whose four-issue run begins with Wonder Woman #41 on January 20, 2027. Their story tackles the Amazon Safety Act as Diana fights to make it possible for her sisters to return to Man’s World. The question is whether the Amazons even want to come back after everything they’ve experienced.

Simonson’s story also brings Lois Lane into the mix, along with Granny Goodness and the Female Furies. Now that’s a guest list that can turn an ordinary afternoon into a full-blown catastrophe. The writer described teaming Diana with Lois as a dream opportunity in DC’s announcement.

After Simonson and Tormey’s issues #41–44, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande step in for a six-issue arc spanning Wonder Woman #45–50. Williams, who has already written Diana and the Amazons, says the longer run will give her room to explore Wonder Woman’s fierce, funny and compassionate sides. She also teases a Nubia team-up.

That combination of established and newer voices could give the title some exciting range. Wonder Woman has always worked best when the stories balance mythological scale with the human side of Diana’s mission. DC’s announcement makes clear that compassion, justice and the future of the Amazons remain central to the celebration.

Wonder Woman #41 features a main cover by Ryan Sook, with variants by Daniel Sampere, Walter Simonson and Cian Tormey, plus special covers from David Nakayama and Alexander Lozano. The 32-page issue is priced at $4.99, with card-stock variants at $5.99.

DC says more Year of Wonder stories and creators will be announced throughout 2027. In the meantime, fans can explore a free-to-read Wonder Woman selection on DC Universe Infinite. Crusaders, which creator would you love to see take a swing at Diana next?
