Marvel’s Midnight Universe Reveals New Issue #2 Horror Variant Covers

Marvel’s new Midnight Universe is not even on shelves yet and Marvel is already pulling back the curtain on what comes next. With Midnight Spider-Man #1, Midnight Fantastic Four #1, and Midnight X-Men #1 all launching October 7, Marvel has now revealed a fresh batch of issue #2 variant covers ahead of the line’s November continuation.
The three-book horror line is built as an interconnected reimagining of familiar Marvel characters, with mutantkind cursed, Peter Parker undergoing a gruesome transformation, and the Fantastic Four heading into some seriously dark scientific territory. Marvel says the three debut issues have collectively passed one million copies ordered, so there is clearly plenty of curiosity around just how far this Midnight experiment is going to go.
The new issue #2 covers introduce several recurring variant programs across the line. Lucas Werneck handles the blood-soaked Midnight Bloodbath covers for all three titles, while the Midnight Horror Homage variants come from Leinil Francis Yu on Midnight Spider-Man #2, Phil Noto on Midnight Fantastic Four #2, and Juann Cabal on Midnight X-Men #2. Ben Harvey delivers a Midnight Special cover for Fantastic Four #2, while Simone Bianchi contributes a painted Midnight Gallery cover for Spider-Man #2.
Midnight Spider-Man #2 is written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art by ScieTronc. Midnight Fantastic Four #2 is written by Benjamin Percy with art by Kev Walker, and Midnight X-Men #2 is written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Matteo Della Fonte. All three second issues are scheduled to hit comic shops on November 18.
Before that, the entire Midnight line launches together on October 7. Marvel will also spotlight the new universe at its “Marvel Comics: The Midnight Hour” panel during New York Comic Con on October 9. Horror-flavored Marvel is officially becoming its own lane, and the cover program makes it pretty clear that Marvel plans to push that identity hard from the jump.
