Speed Racer #8 Review – Mad Cave Delivers High-Octane Comic Excellence

·Al Mega

(aka… buckle up, because this issue don’t drive… it THROWS HANDS at 200 MPH)

First off if you ain’t reading this run yet… what are we doing here?! Seriously. This ain’t your granddad’s Speed Racer. This is Speed Racer with ATTITUDE, swagger, and just enough chaos to make you grip the edge of your seat like you’re riding shotgun in the Mach 5 with no seatbelt. Let’s talk about it… because issue #8? Oh yeah… this one hits DIFFERENT.

Speed Racer #8 from Mad Cave Studios doesn’t just hit the gas it stomps on it and dares you to keep up. This issue feels like controlled chaos in the best way possible, opening on a slick, high-society gala that instantly lets you know something shady is brewing beneath the surface. You’ve got Speed trying to navigate a world that’s all suits, secrets, and side-eyes, and before you can even settle in… BOOM everything goes sideways.

The writing here is sharp and confident. David Pepose balances tension and action like a pro, letting conversations breathe just enough before smashing the reader with full-throttle insanity. When the Mammoth Car crashes through the scene, it’s not just spectacle it’s a statement. Stakes go up, danger gets real, and Speed is forced to step beyond just being a driver and become a strategist under pressure.

Visually, this book is a straight-up adrenaline rush. Davide Tinto delivers kinetic, flowing panel work that makes every page feel like it’s moving. You’re not just reading a race you’re inside it. Jão Canola’s colors amplify that motion, shifting from elegant gala tones to high-intensity neon chaos once the action kicks in, while Buddy Beaudoin’s lettering punches every engine roar and explosion right into your chest.

What really makes this issue shine is how it respects the legacy of Speed Racer while evolving it. The heart is still there Speed’s morality, his drive to do right but the world around him is more dangerous, more layered, and far less forgiving. That contrast gives the story weight and keeps everything feeling fresh.

Bottom line this is one of the most exciting, high-energy comics on the shelves right now. It’s fun, it’s explosive, and it proves Mad Cave Studios knows exactly how to take a classic property and make it feel brand new without losing its soul. Full throttle, no brakes, all WEPA.
