NFL Legend Lance Briggs Blasts Into Comics With the Interstellar Sports Noir The Trap

From crushing tackles on the football field to breaking boundaries across the galaxy, former Chicago Bears linebacker and seven-time Pro Bowler Lance Briggs is officially entering the comic book arena.

Briggs teams with Eisner and Harvey Award-nominated writer Kyle Higgins (Radiant Black, Immortal Legend Batman) and artist Danilo Beyruth (Deep Cuts, Catwoman) for The Trap, an original science-fiction sports graphic novel arriving this fall from Image Comics.

The story follows Jaylen Robinson, a rising athlete trying to escape one of the galaxy’s roughest neighborhoods, Earth. His talent could change everything, but days before the biggest race of his life, a desperate job goes sideways and puts his career, freedom, and future on the line.

Briggs describes the project as a futuristic world built around struggles that remain painfully familiar. Higgins calls it an “interstellar sports noir,” combining athletic ambition, crime, pressure, and second chances inside a universe that feels both dazzling and dangerously broken.

Beyruth’s artwork brings that contrast to life, blending sleek science-fiction spectacle with environments that look worn down, lived in, and ready to collapse.
