Gen V breakout Asa Germann will reportedly play Warren Worthington III, giving Marvel another founding X-Man and one of its most tragically underused mutants.
Marvel Studios’ new X-Men lineup already includes enough mutant power to turn Cerebro into a smoking paperweight. Now the team is reportedly adding wings.
Asa Germann has joined Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie as Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly. Marvel Studios declined to comment when contacted by EW, but multiple major entertainment trades have independently confirmed the casting.
Germann is best known for playing the dangerously powerful Sam Riordan in Prime Video’s Gen V. He also appeared in The Boys and entered another major genre franchise through Scream 7. Apparently surviving one deeply dysfunctional school for superpowered young people qualifies somebody for admission to Xavier’s.
The casting matters because Angel is not simply another recognizable mutant being added to the roster. Warren was one of the five heroes introduced in the original X-Men #1 from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, alongside Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast and Iceman.

Marvel has already cast Kit Connor as Cyclops and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. With Germann reportedly joining them as Angel, three members of that founding team are now assembled. That does not guarantee Beast and Iceman will complete the original five, but it gives fans a legitimate reason to watch the remaining casting announcements closely.
Warren is also considerably more complicated than the pretty rich guy with wings some adaptations have reduced him to. He was born into extraordinary privilege, but his enormous feathered wings make hiding his mutation nearly impossible. That tension between wealth, beauty, visibility and persecution gives Marvel plenty to explore before anybody starts replacing feathers with metal blades.
Angel’s most famous transformation occurs after Apocalypse manipulates a broken Warren and turns him into the Horseman of Death, complete with metallic wings and the new identity of Archangel. Germann’s casting will immediately restart speculation about that storyline, but Marvel has not confirmed Apocalypse, Archangel or any planned transformation.
The previous films never completely unlocked the character. Ben Foster played Warren in X-Men: The Last Stand, where his rejection of the mutant cure produced some memorable imagery but limited development. Ben Hardy portrayed a younger version in X-Men: Apocalypse, only for Archangel to become one of the movie’s underused henchmen.
Marvel now gets another chance to let Warren exist as a complete person before turning his body and identity into somebody else’s weapon. That tragedy only carries weight if audiences first understand the man underneath the wings.
Germann joins a growing cast that Marvel officially introduced at D23. Christopher Abbott will play Professor Charles Xavier, Kit Connor is Cyclops, Sadie Sink is Jean Grey, Maya Boyd is Storm, Inde Navarrette is Rogue and Samara Weaving is Emma Frost. Adam Driver will portray Nathaniel Milbury, the identity associated with Mister Sinister.
Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts, is helming the movie. Marvel has scheduled its new X-Men for May 5, 2028, positioning the film as the first full mutant-team feature produced within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fam, that release date remains distant enough for three more multiversal disasters, six casting rumors and at least one blurry photograph of Hugh Jackman near a soundstage. Germann’s reported addition still tells us something meaningful about Marvel’s direction.
The studio is not merely grabbing the most famous characters from the Fox movies. It is reaching back toward the team’s earliest foundation and giving Angel another opportunity to become more than a pair of expensive visual effects.
The MCU’s mutants have found their Angel. Now Marvel needs to give Warren Worthington III enough room to fly before somebody decides those feathers would look better in steel.
