Texas Chain Saw Day 2026 Is Revving Up the Nightmare Nationwide
WEPA, horror fam, get ready because Leatherface is firing up the saw again, and this time the nightmare is coming back where it belongs: on the big screen, loud, nasty, and surrounded by a room full of people who actually understand why horror hits different in a theater.
Dark Sky Films and Fathom Entertainment have announced the return of Texas Chain Saw Day, the nationwide celebration of Tobe Hooper’s immortal horror landmark, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. After last year’s inaugural event packed fans into more than 900 theaters and sliced its way to the #2 horror spot at the domestic box office that day, the one-night-only event returns on August 18, 2026.
And that date is not random, mi gente. August 18 marks the date of the events in the film, making this more than a screening. It is a horror holiday. A sweaty-palmed, seat-gripping, chainsaw-roaring pilgrimage for fans who know that some movies were not built to be watched casually while scrolling your phone and eating sad microwave popcorn. Nah. This one demands darkness. Volume. A crowd. That beautiful collective panic when Leatherface enters the conversation and everybody’s soul briefly leaves the building.
This year, audiences will get to experience The Texas Chain Saw Massacre remastered in 4K, bringing the raw terror, grimy realism, relentless dread, and unforgettable madness of the 1974 classic back into theaters with fresh cinematic bite. More than five decades later, this film still does not feel old. It feels dangerous. Like it was buried in the dirt, dug back up, and somehow came back meaner.
Selected for preservation by the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry, Hooper’s masterpiece remains one of the most influential horror films ever made. Before modern horror franchises turned fear into a branded machine, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre came through like a rusty blade through silence. It did not wink. It did not soften the blow. It dragged audiences into a nightmare built on heat, panic, madness, and one of cinema’s most unforgettable monsters: Leatherface.
The impact is still being felt today. Acclaimed Obsession filmmaker Curry Barker, who has been tapped to direct A24’s upcoming reimagining of the Texas Chain Saw franchise, has cited the original film as a foundational influence on his vision for the future of the series. That tells you everything. The saw still echoes.
Justin DiPietro, Executive Vice President of MPI and Dark Sky Films, said last year’s response proved audiences still want to experience the film “the way it was meant to be seen,” together on the big screen. Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment, called the event a celebration of passionate fans, a beloved film, and the shared electricity of moviegoing.
Translation? Horror is alive, fam.
What started as a one-time celebration is now becoming an annual tradition, and honestly, that feels right. Some classics deserve more than a streaming thumbnail. They deserve a packed theater, nervous laughter, wide eyes, and that moment where the whole room collectively says, “Oh nah, we are in trouble.”
Texas Chain Saw Day returns August 18, 2026.
Bring your friends.
Bring your courage.
Maybe leave the barbecue plans for another day.
Tickets for TEXAS CHAIN SAW DAY will be available online on July 21, 2026, and at participating theatre box offices (theatre locations are subject to change). For more information, please visit Fathom Entertainment.
