The Influencer Project Brings Found-Footage Horror Into the Social Media Age

Fam, found-footage horror basically trained an entire generation to side-eye shaky cameras, dark hallways and somebody whispering “did you hear that?” into a cheap mic. Now The Influencer Project is dragging that formula straight into the social media era, and tickets are officially on sale ahead of the film’s October 2, 2026 theatrical release.

The movie comes from The Blair Witch Project creators Eduardo Sánchez and Gregg Hale, with UK creator Chiara King making her feature-film debut. Set in Copenhagen, the story follows a young creator traveling with a documentary crew for what is supposed to be an unfiltered look at the business of online fame. Then an obsessive stalker starts closing in, and the whole thing mutates from content into evidence while the line between audience, follower and predator gets uglier by the minute.

That setup works because it updates the found-footage idea without pretending people still live through camcorders and VHS tapes. Phones, social platforms, digital access and the constant pressure to share your life are already built into how millions of people move through the world, so turning that access into the mechanism for a horror story makes a lot of sense. King has also said she drew from her own experiences while shaping the performance, which gives the material another layer beyond the standard “influencer in danger” hook.

Mike Nybroe directs, with Sánchez and Hale producing alongside Nybroe, Alex Hertzberg and Ahmet Zappa. The screenplay comes from Lars Ap, Anders Jon Petersen and Nybroe, with DJ White Shadow handling the score and music supervision. The cast also includes Luca Storm, Jazmine Summer, Mike Nybroe and Alexandre Willaume.

The Influencer Project opens in theaters October 2, 2026. Tickets are available through the film’s official website, AMC, Regal and participating theaters. If this team can make the everyday act of posting your life online feel as invasive as wandering into the woods with a camera did back in 1999, this could be a nasty little horror ride.
