The reason they’re here is ***The Future Is ****** * **, Rekcah Comics’ massive cyberpunk saga set in a world where hackers, corporations, technology and manipulated reality have gotten dangerously tangled together. Fred has committed to an ambitious 60-issue, five-year story, and now the book is entering another stage as David joins the madness as its new regular interior artist beginning with issue #20.

We get into Fred’s long-term plan for a comic that isn’t afraid to look at where technology might be dragging us, what David sees in this world as he prepares to put his visual stamp on it, and what happens when two creators with very different storytelling weapons get thrown together. There’s cyberpunk, crime, hackers, augmented reality, corporations controlling information and enough uncomfortable parallels to our actual world that maybe calling this shit “the future” is already being generous.

We also talk about David returning to the grind of a monthly book, Fred getting to work with an artist whose Stray Bullets he has admired for years, and the freedom built into a series designed to change genres, moods and visual approaches along the way. David described that flexibility as part of what attracted him to the project, while Fred has called the pairing a natural fit for a story that’s ultimately part cyberpunk nightmare and part crime caper.
