GOD HUNTER: Robert Flowers Talks Monsters, Crime & Mythology | GeekFest x Comic Crusaders Special

WEPA, Crusaders! Robert Flowers joins Al Mega for another GeekFest x Comic Crusaders Special, and this time we’re stepping into the dark, crime-soaked world of GOD HUNTER, his 12-minute genre short where creatures from myth and folklore aren’t stories anymore. They’re here, somebody figured out how to traffic them, and one undercover cop has a very personal reason for getting inside that world. GOD HUNTER is an official GeekFest Year 13 selection, currently making its way through the festival circuit.

Robert describes GOD HUNTER as crime meets urban fantasy, and that’s the shit that immediately caught our attention. The story follows Sal, an undercover detective working as “Donnie,” whose search for his missing son brings him face-to-face with Lixo, a mysterious woman who crossed into our world through one of seven supernatural gateways. We’re not going any deeper than that because, fam, this is a short film. We’re here to make you want to WATCH the damn thing, not tell you everything that happens before you get there.

The conversation goes way beyond the setup as Robert gets into creating a world where monsters and mythology collide with organized crime, building genre stories around underdogs, and finding the human story inside all the supernatural madness. We also get into his path as a Mexican American filmmaker, his love of genre storytelling, the realities of independent filmmaking and why GOD HUNTER isn’t necessarily finished when those twelve minutes are over. Robert is already developing the feature-film screenplay and pitch deck, so this short could be our first taste of a much bigger world.

Robert’s previous sci-fi thriller Honor’s Half-Life won Best Thriller/Suspense at the 2025 Chandler International Film Festival and was picked up by DUST, while GOD HUNTER has continued his festival run with selections including GeekFest Year 13, Bloody Peach Film Festival, Chicano Hollywood Film Festival and HorrOrigins Film Festival. The project also reached the semifinals of the 2026 Roadmap Writers Shorts Competition.

Hit PLAY on our conversation with Robert Flowers, check out GOD HUNTER as it makes its way through the festival circuit, and support filmmakers willing to mash genres together instead of giving us the same recycled shit we’ve already watched fifty times. Monsters, mythology, crime, corruption and one seriously pissed-off father looking for his son? Yeah, you already know we had questions. The Crusade Never Ends! WEPA!

GOD HUNTER is an official GeekFest Film Fests Year 13 selection and screened in GeekFest’s Action/Adventure Shorts block at Long Beach Comic Con.
