James Kuhoric | VALENTINE BLUFFS MASSACRE: IRON HEART | Comic Crusaders Podcast #753

The mines beneath Valentine Bluffs are open again, but the darkness waiting below has received one brutal upgrade.

Award-winning writer, editor and American Mythology President James Kuhoric joins Al Mega on the Comic Crusaders Podcast to discuss Valentine Bluffs Massacre: Iron Heart #1, a vicious two-issue reimagining that combines slasher terror with the modern fear of automation replacing human labor.

Written by Kuhoric and Willy’s Wonderland screenwriter G.O. Parsons, with artwork by Andrea Arcari, the story finds mining robots taking over the jobs that once sustained Valentine Bluffs. The resulting unemployment leaves the community full of anger, desperation and broken dreams. Then The Miner begins killing again, only now a legendary evil has discovered a new home inside a metallic shell.

The premise turns a familiar horror icon into something frighteningly current. The machines are not merely spooky hardware dropped into an established franchise. They represent the disappearance of livelihoods, the erosion of community and the fear that human beings can be discarded as easily as outdated equipment. The pickaxe may deliver the final blow, but the town has already been wounded long before the killing begins.

During the conversation, Kuhoric discusses the creative path that led from his work on properties including Army of Darkness, Battlestar Galactica, Fright Night, The Six Million Dollar Man and Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash to helping guide American Mythology. He also explores the responsibility of expanding beloved horror worlds, collaborating with Parsons and Arcari, and building a complete, hard-hitting slasher story across two issues.

The new Miner brings the relentless force of mechanical horror into the dirty, claustrophobic world of Valentine Bluffs. It is a combination built for readers who like their science fiction mean, their slashers merciless and their workplace automation policies reviewed by someone who is not carrying a blood-soaked pickaxe.

Valentine Bluffs Massacre: Iron Heart #1 arrives at comic shops on August 26, 2026, from American Mythology.
