Kenya Bradford Comic Crusaders Podcast #755

Independent comics don’t arrive with eighty years of continuity, a billion-dollar movie studio and an army of readers waiting for Issue #1. Somebody has to convince people the world matters first, and Kenya Bradford is taking on exactly that challenge with Pryceless Comics and BloodBlade: DragonBlood.

Bradford joins Al Mega on the Comic Crusaders Podcast for a conversation about creating an independent publishing company while simultaneously developing a new creator-owned universe. Rather than treating BloodBlade as a single project floating on its own, Bradford is approaching it as the foundation for something considerably larger, with character growth, mythology, connected storytelling and long-term worldbuilding sitting at the center of the plan.

The conversation digs into a side of comics readers rarely see. Creating characters is one thing. Building production pipelines, finding collaborators, establishing visual consistency, promoting an unknown property and convincing somebody to spend money on characters they’ve never met is another beast entirely. Bradford talks through that process and why independent publishers need more than a cool premise if they expect readers to stick around.

BloodBlade: DragonBlood is also entering an important stretch. Its Kickstarter campaign is currently underway through October 9 as Pryceless Comics moves toward a planned January 8, 2027 launch. Rather than avoiding the realities of crowdfunding, the interview gets into what campaigns can teach creators about audience building, marketing, expectations and adjusting when reality doesn’t perfectly match the spreadsheet.

Anime, manga, superhero comics and broader genre storytelling also enter the conversation as Bradford explains how influences can feed a new universe without allowing the resulting work to become an imitation of something audiences already know.

For aspiring creators, the biggest value may be hearing somebody discuss the process while the company is still being constructed. There is no victory-lap mythology here. Pryceless Comics is building, learning and trying to earn readers one at a time.
