Son Dam-bi: Remembering the K-Pop Star Who Made Saturday Night Iconic

This week, Freyja and Mark are heading back to the glory days of second-generation K-pop to talk about one of the era’s unforgettable solo stars: Son Dam-bi (손담비).

Son Dam-bi made her music debut in 2007, but it was “Crazy” in 2008 that helped turn her into a major name. The song’s famous chair choreography became almost as recognizable as the track itself, giving K-pop fans one of those performances that immediately brings an entire era rushing back. Then came “Saturday Night.”

Released in 2009, the retro-inspired hit became another signature Son Dam-bi song and earned her a first-place victory on KBS Music Bank. Between the music, styling and wonderfully memorable choreography, it remains exactly the kind of second-gen K-pop gem we LOVE rediscovering on K-Pop Cosmos. But Son Dam-bi’s story goes well beyond “Crazy” and “Saturday Night.” Her catalog also gave fans songs including “Bad Boy,” “Queen,” “dB Rider” and “Red Candle,” while her career gradually expanded beyond music and into acting.

She eventually appeared in dramas including Dream, Mrs. Cop 2 and ** When the Camellia Blooms **, with the latter becoming an especially important chapter in her acting career. Son Dam-bi later described the drama as opening a “second chapter” of her life. And her story isn’t finished. Recent 2026 reports have indicated that Son Dam-bi is preparing to return to acting in a short-form drama, years after her appearance in When the Camellia Blooms.

So this week, grab your headphones and join Freyja and Mark as we revisit Son Dam-bi’s music, those iconic performances, her evolution from K-pop soloist to actress, and the wonderfully nostalgic era that gave us “Saturday Night.” Because sometimes exploring the K-Pop Cosmos means jumping into the time machine. 🌌💖
