Batman: Bad Seeds Turns Gotham Into Poison Ivy’s Nightmare Garden This August!

As the sun dips behind the skyline of Gotham City, something ancient, hungry, and wildly dangerous starts waking up beneath the concrete. And trust me, this ain’t your friendly neighborhood garden party. This is Batman: Bad Seeds, DC’s next major Batman event kicking off in August and running straight through October — and Gotham is about to get turned inside out, vine by vine, block by block, nightmare by nightmare.
At the center of the madness is Poison Ivy, who unleashes a desperate act of eco-terror that transforms Gotham into a hostile jungle of prehistoric plant life. We’re talking streets swallowed by vines, buildings getting choked out by mutant greenery, carnivorous flora creeping through the city like it pays rent, and entire neighborhoods sliding backward into some primordial chaos. Gotham was already rough — now it’s got teeth, roots, thorns, and zero chill.
Told across one long, brutal, dark night, Batman: Bad Seeds pulls Gotham’s heroes, villains, cops, civilians, and every poor soul caught in the middle into a survival horror scenario with capes. This city has seen clowns, scarecrows, owls, demons, and billionaire trauma in a cape — but this time, Gotham itself becomes the monster.
Leading the charge are showrunners Matt Fraction and G. Willow Wilson, which already tells you DC isn’t playing small ball here. Fraction, steering the Batman side of the event, and Wilson, bringing that deep Poison Ivy fire, are building a Gotham-wide crossover that spreads across the city like Ivy’s vines after one bad decision and a whole lot of emotional damage.
And this thing is not staying in one title. Nah, Gotham is too messy for that. Batman: Bad Seeds spreads across Batman, Poison Ivy, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn, with each creative team delivering key chapters that show how the crisis mutates from one corner of the city to another. Across ten weeks, readers will watch the nightmare grow title by title, street by street, until Gotham is barely recognizable.
The Bat-Family? Hunted.
The GCPD? Fractured.
The civilians? Trapped.
The city? Turning against everybody.
And sitting right in the middle of this chaos is Commissioner Vandal Savage, whose militarized grip on Gotham turns the whole situation into an even bigger powder keg. Because apparently giant killer plants weren’t enough — Gotham had to throw paramilitary madness into the blender too. Classic Gotham. Always extra.
The first roots of this event begin on August 26 with a special prelude in Poison Ivy #47, written by G. Willow Wilson with art by Leandro Fernandez. The issue features a main cover by Jessica Fong, along with variant covers by Noobovich, Kyuyong Eom, and Manny Vincent Carbonilla. This prelude makes one thing crystal clear: Gotham City may be done with Mayor Pamela Isley, but Pamela Isley is absolutely not done with Gotham. And when Ivy decides she’s not done? Everybody better stop watering their plants and start running.
Then, also on August 26, the event officially detonates with Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1. Written by Matt Fraction and G. Willow Wilson, with art and cover by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cliff Rathburn, and Tomeu Morey, this opening chapter brings the lights down in the worst way possible. Gotham loses power as the sun goes down, and suddenly everybody learns that the only thing scarier than the night might be what’s coming with the morning sun.
This issue also features variant covers by Dan Mora, Marcio Takara, Jorge Jiménez, and Jeff Spokes, including a Glow-in-the-Dark variant, because if Gotham is going to become a botanical horror show, we might as well make the cover glow like it knows your secrets.
The setup is wild: Pamela Isley, abandoned by her political and arcane allies, makes one final, devastating power play that could leave Gotham decimated by daybreak. Meanwhile, Vandal Savage, already at war with the Bat-Family and flooding the streets with his private paramilitary police force, sees the chaos as an opportunity to clean house. Basically, Ivy brings the apocalypse, Savage brings the army, and Batman has to somehow keep Gotham from becoming a prehistoric crime salad.
Following the August prelude and kickoff, Batman: Bad Seeds continues across September and October in the pages of Batman, Poison Ivy, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn, along with several new event titles still waiting to be fully revealed. DC is keeping more details under wraps for now, but from what’s already been planted, this crossover is shaping up to be a big, creepy, city-wide Batman event with horror vibes, survival stakes, and enough Gotham chaos to make Arkham look like a yoga retreat.
This is the kind of event that feels built for Batman fans who love when Gotham becomes more than just a backdrop. Here, the city is alive. Angry. Hungry. And evolving by the hour.
So get ready, Crusaders — Batman: Bad Seeds is coming, and Gotham is about to find out what happens when Poison Ivy stops warning people and starts growing consequences.

The night belongs to the Bat.
The city belongs to Ivy.
And by sunrise?
Gotham may never be the same.
